Train Station

OKC Experts,

This is the first of what will probably be many questions.

We are planing a ';train adventure'; for our 6 yo grandaughter and will be riding from DFW to OKC. Our train will arrive around 9:30 pm. Is there a car rental service available at the train station? Are Taxis readily available at the train station? Thanks in advance for your help.

Not sure about the car rental, but I rode the Dart train this weekend from Plano to the VA Hospital in Lancaster. Needless to say, it was quite an adventure. Lots of sights along the way.

No car rental service is at the train station. And at 9:30 PM you won%26#39;t be able to rent a car anywhere except an airport location.

You should be able to call a cab when you get here (I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;ve ever seen one waiting at the train station) and you can rent a car the next day from the hotel - both Enterprise and Hertz Local Edition (neighborhood locations) offer pickup service during their normal business hours (typically 8AM to 6PM M-F, 8AM to Noon on Saturday, None on Sunday). The airport locations for both are open earlier, close later and have better hours than the neighborhood locations.

Please post back after your adventure. This is a trip we have talked about taking for years to a ballgame, just for fun.

The Amtrak service in OKC is what I would describe as half-arsed.

The train station itself is often not open, although it has been renovated and is lovely inside. It is rented for weddings and other things.

You might be able to hail a cab near the train station, especially if there is an event at either/both the Ford Center and The Cox Convention Center (Myriad).

I was downtown last week for the Big 12 NCAA basketball tournament, and there were taxi%26#39;s on the streets around the convention centers and nearby hotels (Renaissance, Courtyard, Skirvin Hilton).

You may have to call for a cab, though. Where are you staying? If it is downtown, you can walk to your hotel and arrange a rental car the next day. Enterprise will pick you up anywhere, and there are off-airport rental locations for them as well.
