Great Local Restuarants

Could some of you locals recommend some good, local restaurants in the OKC area? Our all-time favorite was Terra Luna, which closed. We like Cheevers and the Mantle, but neither doesn%26#39;t has quite the same uniqueness of style and flavor that Terra Luna did. We also like Trattoria il Centro, but sometimes we just aren%26#39;t in the mood for Italian. Can anyone recommend something else? No chains, please; we prefer to frequent locally owned establishments.

Great Local Restuarants

Cafe Nova on N. Western serves uniquely Oklahoman and Southwestern cuisine:

Great Local Restuarants

Maybe either Deep Fork Grill on N. Western or North Fork on Memorial

Try the Mantel - it%26#39;s basically cat-a-corner from Mickey Mantle%26#39;s in Bricktown.

Have you tried Lottinvilles in Edmond? If you liked Terra Luna you will like them.

Flips on Western and Grand is good Italian.

Cafe Pranzo on Britton and May is awesome Italian.

Boulevard Steakhouse in Edmond is really good but very expensive.

Ken%26#39;s Steakhouse in Amber can%26#39;t be beat, but it%26#39;s a bit of a drive and only takes cash. Very good prices though.

Ted%26#39;s Café Escondido is the only place for Mexican food.

So many choices...

One of my favorites is BRAVO. It is Italian dining probably in between causual and fine dining. It has great food and a unique atmospher for OKC area. It is located at:

13810 North Pennsylvania Avenue

Oklahoma City, OK 73134

For more casual eating - and I do mean casual as in sandwiches, pizza and pasta - try Falcone%26#39;s at 67th and May. Genuine NYC Pizza, great hot and cold sangwiches, calzones, stromboli, specials of the day (like eggplant, calamari, chicken and pasta dishes) and the best cannoli in OKC!

Try a meatball bada-bing if you like spicy!

BRAVO is actually a chain, but it%26#39;s pretty good. In terms of chains, it%26#39;s neighbor PF Changs and/or Pei Wei are tops IMO.

My current favorite is the Saturn Grille in Nichols Hills Plaza.

We always try to get there when we%26#39;re in Oklahoma City. We%26#39;ve eaten there around eight or nine times and never been disappointed.

It%26#39;s very casual. saturngrill.com

Terra Luna was our favorite too, and we really miss it.

Also, Johnny%26#39;s is a longtime perennial favorite for excellent hamburgers. Their onion rings are famous and fabulous. Two locations: one on Britton Road and one near Walker and I-240 on the south side.

Second Ted%26#39;s for Mexican food, although it%26#39;s been quite a while since I have been there.

Please let us know how you fared.

There is another Johnny%26#39;s on NW Expressway between Rockwell and MacArthur.

:)

Some pretty amazing restaurants are popping up especially in the inner city. In Midtown near Plaza Court at 10th and Walker, you can find Cafe do Brasil which I%26#39;ve heard is great. Soon opening in the same few blocks is 1492 New World with old Latin cuisine, Irma%26#39;s II (a second location of a local burger place), McNellie%26#39;s Irish pub (2nd location for a Tulsa restaurant). In Automobile Alley (Broadway between 4th and 10th) Red Prime steakhouse is opening by the same owners as Cheevers.

For an interesting experience, try Queen of Sheba which opened last year I think. It%26#39;s an Ethiopian restaurant at 23rd and MacArthur in a shopping center across from a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market. It%26#39;s sooo tasty, and also an amazing cultural experience.
