moving from southern california!

Greetings Tulsa,

I am 31 and have lived in SoCal all my life but always wanted to live in the Midwest eventually. So very soon i am moving and have really thought of Tulsa and heard good things.

Couple questions please, what is the job outlook like? Any decent job opportunities for a 31yr old or are decent jobs on the decline?

Also I am a HUGE severe storm freak and believe it or not I am starving for thunderstorms and yes even tornadoes!!! Living in SoCal we only get 1-2 thunderstorms a year!!!!

So are there many thunderstorms or even tornadoes each year in Tulsa????????

Yes i know its a weird question but i am serious!!!

Thanks,

Dustin

You don%26#39;t mention what field you%26#39;re in so it%26#39;s hard to answer your question regarding jobs in Tulsa, without knowing that. As for severe weather, Tulsa certainly has it%26#39;s fair share - even just yesterday we were expecting storms but as storms go, the worst of it went around us, to the north in KS, and the South in Leflore county. There are many storm chaser organizations here, affliated with television stations. Having lived here all my life, I have of course been in the midst of several of the larger tornadoes. I can give you more information on the job scene, if you can post what occupation you seek.

I would think your job opportunities would be ok if you are not in the aviation field

As for thunderstorms we ';enjoy'; them frequently from March-June...you will get prime time coverage of tornadoes during that time as well...most tornadoes somehow skip the cities and do most of their damage to the rural areas

Thanks to both of you for your info.

My work has been Inside Sales for 7 yrs but I want something different, preferably like getting my foot in the door in some type of weather job.

If you are interested in a weather job...Norman OK has a national weather service station down there...so if that is your intention I would think Norman would be better than Tulsa for you...and of course the Univ of Okla there offers numerous weather courses

Just right north of Norman is the city of Moore, which seems to always get hit w/ the big tornadoes....unfortunately

Well, if you like storms..you would have loved our storm on Saturday night!

An F1 tornado touched down at the Tulsa Airport without warning. It ripped open the roof in one wing, shattered windows and destroyed the court yard at the Radisson Inn Tulsa Airport. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Kudo%26#39;s to the staff at the Radisson Inn Tulsa Airport for managing panic control among their full house of guest. They quickly took control and with ease moved the startled guest to other hotels for the duration of their stay.

The hotel is in the process of repairing and renovating the wing damaged in the storm. The lovely new renovations will remind us of our blessings!

If you%26#39;re really into storms, then the Norman area would be great (see other posts, above). Tulsa has a fair number of storms, tho; thankfully I%26#39;ve got a basement to go hide out in when they get too close.

As for job prospects, our unemployment rate is very low, but we have seen a loss of quite a few white collar jobs in the last couple of years (and yet, somehow, our unemployment rate stays low--can%26#39;t explain that). Suggest you check with a suitable Tulsa-based headhunter or check out the Tulsa World (local daily) classifieds, www.tulsaworld.com.

I would suggest moving to Oklahoma City, Edmond, Norman area instead of Tulsa. There are more storms in that area. In addition, there are more things to do for a 31 year old. Tulsa is great but seems to have more gang and crime problems and have less to do. There was a big storm Monday where three tornadoes touched down. It was a very crazy looking storm. Good luck!

Hello, I am from Sothern Cali and I can tell you that if you enjoy the outdoor life such as fishing and hunting you will love it here. There is mass panic caused from the weather reporters about tornados Just turn your TV off during storm season to solve that problem When you get ready to move please give me a call I am a Sand Springs U haul dealer and I can make you a great deal # 1-866-288-3507 also if you need storage let me know I can help you out. Thanks guys for your comments.

I am actually going to fly in the middle of May to OKC and check it out for 2 days and drive to Tulsa for 2 days.

Does anyone know if there is some type of Tulsa Tourism center or an OKC tourism center?

Also does Tulsa or OKC have any swing dance clubs?

THanks

Dustin,

When you arrive in OKC and get your rental car, they will give you a map and you can ask them to mark the nearest tourist information center on it. It%26#39;s too late to get anything by regular mail, but you might want to check out the www.okccvb.org website to learn more about Oklahoma City, and the one for Tulsa is www.visittulsa.com. Hope you enjoy your visit, and for your sake, I hope we get some severe weather! :-)
