Thinking to move to OKC

Hello All, I am currently living in OC, california for 12 years. I have been thinking relocation to OKC (close to lake hefner-My wife%26#39;s uncle he live 3 miles away from the lake) . My family of 4 ( My wife and I, and my 2 girls, big one about 8 years old the little one about 3 . My wife%26#39;s uncle have told me that the house over there around 130k-170k so we are plannig to puschase a house when move over there. But there are a few problems I am concering right now can any one give me some advise.

Is there any medical program for kids under 18 years old in OKC?. In CA do have a state medical program it call ';Healthy Family Program ';we currently paid $24 for our kids each month. They provived everything Health, Dentis, Vision. To qualify this Healty Family Program our income have to be from $1,500-$3500 month(No limit the amount in bank account ot the assets you had).

Thinking to move to OKC

I don%26#39;t know of any plan like the one you have now. We do have the normal medicaid plans and free clinics (for vaccinations and such).

Here is a link to the State Heath Dept website:

http://www.health.state.ok.us/

And the Oklahoma City/County Health Dept website:

http://www.cchdoc.com/

You might look around on them to see if they have anything that meets your needs.

Thinking to move to OKC

They have a program called SoonerCare based on income. If you can

afford a house in that price range you should be able to afford insurance for you kids. jmho.

You%26#39;ll find that you can afford a lot more of everything with Oklahoma living compared to where you%26#39;re at now.

WOW! There%26#39;s a lifestyle change for you. Orange County to Oklahoma City. I only hope that Mother Nature misses your house the next time she swoops down and blows away the neighborhood.

As opposed to swallowing up the neighborhood with a wildfire or earthquake? :)

Then again, I understand Boston can bury you under feet of snow in a bad winter.

We all have problems with Mother Nature. OK is no worse than any other place and a lot better than most.

modcon......I second that! And in addition to that, it%26#39;s a lot easier to dodge a tornado than a hurricane! In fact my husband and I have chased a few tornadoes, but hurricanes? No way! We were in Cancun last October when Wilma was making herself known..........It was me or Wilma, one of us had to leave.....Wilma won and I left just before she hit Cancun. In fact, they shut the airport down a couple hours after we left. Whew! That was close.

However, (knock on wood.....) I have lived in OK all my life and have never really seen a tornado up close and personal (not that I want to)

But that said, the only real downside to living in OK is the problem with allergies (for me anyway) not tornadoes.

Thank you , Modcon , Alcapone and GCPSGirl for your information.

I have been in Oklahoma City last summer ( 1 week ) and I have fell in love with the people over there.... The trafic ... the living cost.

Though it may have been tinged with sarcasm, one reply regarding the value of home you are interested in purchasing in the Hefner area of town i.e. south of Galardia but north of Cherokee Hills (I am assuming you%26#39;ll stay north of that area) yes, $170,000.00 will bag you an extremely nice house by any standard, and having a few acquantances on the west coast, I know by the size of home they live in for what they pay, that you%26#39;ll probably feel like you%26#39;re moving into to the Beverly Hillbillies mansion here...

So yes, if you are able to afford a home value of that nature in the OKC area, you will not qualify for Soonercare or medicaid services through OK County DHS.

Just browse a bit before you move in- some of the neighborhoods on that side of town love to kid themselves about their zip code. A few summers ago there was a little hillarity going about when someone went around a neighborhood around 122nd and Meridian and posted notes on car windows asking people to not park their vehicles in front of their homes on their drive ways, to park in the alley or in the garage. HaHa. It then remarks about how if you wanted to do that, to move to MWC....

Tacky, I know, but check around before you buy, look before you leap!
