  • Moore Oklahoma Microtel

I stayed at the Microtel in Moore about 2 years ago and it was totally disgusting! My bed had fresh blood stains on the bedding, the desk clerk had no idea how to process us in, the breakfast was a nightmare all by its self. Orange juice dispenser would just give us a greenish-orange goo, the ceral was really stale and the toast was all gone by 8 am.

The parking lot was totally trashed with large amounts of trash all over. When I complained to the Microteel customer service number, they told me there was nothing they could do since that Microtel was a franchise. How about taking away his franchise????? THIS WAS A MAJOR MISTAKE ON MICROTELS PART BECAUSE I RUN A TOUR COMPANY... WANNA GUESS HOW MANY BED-NIGHTS I BOOK EVERY YEAR??? Wanna guess where my clients WILL NEVER stay? If you stay at any Microtel, do so at your own risk!!

You will be happy to know that the Moore Microtel will be gone soon to make way for more shopping.

  • Finding CHRIS instead of NEMO

hi veryone, Is someone who know Chris Corpuz?I%26#39;m looking for this guy for almost a decade. He lives in Oklahoma city ( 100% sure about it), and he was my penpal for almost 4 years. He was and still is the best friend I ever had.Oh yes, Chris knows me, I%26#39;m from Mauritius Island but I live in Belgium. We started as penfriends in 1993.Can some help me? And if Chris is reading this.....wel, maybe you can reply yourself Chris?

    Finding CHRIS instead of NEMO

I live in Oklahoma and found only one listing for anyone with the the name C.Corpuz in Oklahoma City. Phone number is (405)670-3777 address 4500 Cherry Lane, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73135. I hope this is who your looking for and you can renew your friendship. Good Luck!

    nightlife

My friends and I will be in Tulsa this Friday night. Where are some good bars in Brookeside to go out. We are in our mid twenties.

    nightlife

well, I hate to tell you but there%26#39;s not a whole lot for people our age here. Most of the nightlife seems to be made specifically for 18 - 21! If i would recommend any places that are more upscale and relaxing, i would recommend Suede Martini bar and Champagne lounge. It%26#39;s right on brookside across the street from the Brook...which isn%26#39;t too bad itself but does tend to get a little boring. Good for if you have the munchies though. The only things to remember about Suede is that there is a dress code...no jeans or sneakers...anything like that, and the drinks are all around $7 because they are martinis and champagne. It%26#39;s a nice place with a laid back atmosphere...and they normally have a band.

Wanna get to Know somebody in Oklahoma

Hi, My name is Garadima Imadah, i%26#39;m 27, and from Togo( West Africa); i%26#39;m actually planning to come to the States, but wish to settle down in Ok, and i would to get in touch with anybody willing to house me . Thanks

Wanna get to Know somebody in Oklahoma

Wow Gara, that%26#39;s kinda strange, did you read the grapes of wrath, check the temp, etc., etc., if you%26#39;re from Africa, I would suggest something like Florida or California. How old are you, am I being too blunt? I%26#39;ve never talked to anyone on the internet before.

Are there any good golf courses you would recommend?

    Golf Course

This is a comprehensive guide. There are many gorgeous courses here -

    southcentralgolf.com/Pages/MAIN/DirectoryOKt…

If you can get on this course here is a review regarding Oak Tree:

    ';Hosted the 1988 PGA Championship and I found out why. There is absolutly zero let up holes. You better bring your control. Oh yeah, if you can%26#39;t read greens then be prepared to shoot 200. Fairways were really defined and plush. different levels of rough and deep bunkers. I do not remember any greens that were flat. Absolutely one of the top 3 courses in Oklahoma.';

    entertainment?

is there anything to do in Tulsa at night? In the woodland mall, is there movie theatres? Any place they might have a dinner/playhouse? or a concert or ?????

    entertainment?

I live in OKC, and used to go to Tulsa a lot. There is plenty to do. Dinner at the Polo Club in Utica Square, Burbon Street Cafe on Cherry Street, Wild Fork also in Utica Square. All are great places to eat. As for Night life, it has been many years since I have partied in Tulsa and clubs change to much to keep up with. There are also several museums that are worth going to. And if memory serves me corect Woodland Mall does have a Theatre.

    entertainment?

There is no theater anymore in woodland hills..it is strictly shops. However, there is a great theater just down the road on 71st. They also have an imax there as well.

Dinner is always good at the wild fork, the stone horse cafe or the polo club, all in utica square park. There is also a PF Changs there now which i have only heard good things about.

I%26#39;m not sure if there are any dinner theaters here though. If you get into tulsa there are some free magazines that might be able to tell you more of what%26#39;s going on...one of them is called the urban tulsa. They might have a website as well of what%26#39;s going one. We have a lot of great restaurants here but not so much entertainment. Sorry

  • Kid Friendly restaurante

My husband and I will be travelling to OKC in August with our 2 sons (2 1/2 and 5). Are there any fun restaurants that anyone would recommend? Thank you...

    Kid Friendly restaurante

Oklahoma in general is a very kid-friendly / family-friendly place. I%26#39;m not really sure of what type of restaurants you%26#39;re looking for, but there are a bunch that would work.

Bricktown (downtown OKC) is a very fun place with a great atmosphere.. A riverwalk surrounded by many restaurants, a great minor league ball park, Bass Pro Shop, etc.

The Spaghetti Warehouse is a fun place to eat, with a nice atmosphere. There%26#39;s a trolley car down the middle of the restaurant, which can be fun to eat in. It has a very antique-y feel to it, and the food is great.

Coach%26#39;s is another good place to eat, and it%26#39;s built into the baseball stadium. While you%26#39;re in town, see if there is a Redhawks game you can go to. It would be lots of fun for your sons.

    Kid Friendly restaurante

Try Incredible Pizza for fun. Buffet and games for all. See their web site. It is a new place for OKC opened in May. Enjoy

What part of OKC are you going to be in and what are you coming for??? that will give me an idea as to tell you where you should take the kids.... Bricktown Ball park is a good place to take them but if you are going to be there a few day%26#39;s you don%26#39;t want the same place everyday. Bricktown it self is also a good idea but you may not want to spend all day every day down there. let me know and I can give you some good idea%26#39;s for fun for the whole family... fun rec and food.

We%26#39;re coming to OKC for a mini-vacation. We%26#39;ll be there for 4 or 5 days and we%26#39;re thinking of staying at the Embassy Suites. I had read some negative reviews about the hotel, but they have undergone renovations recently which should have addressed most of the negative comments. We%26#39;re planning to go to Frontier city one day, and visit the crystal bridge. We%26#39;ll also go see the memorial and possibly the science center. Nothing is set in stone though, so any ideas would be great.

    Thanks!!

Yecho3, you also must check out the Oklahoma City Zoological Park - one of the oldest zoos in the southwest and one of the best in the country. There you%26#39;ll find great primate, cat, and aquatic exhibits, and more. It doubles as a botanical garden, and its concessions facilities were upgraded a few years ago.

    Sites 'tween Dallas & OKC?

We%26#39;ve found flight connections to OKC to be pretty miserable. (Going for a week-end meeting from east coast.) Looks like flying to Dallas %26amp; renting a car would actually reduce our travel time.

Any recommendations for things to see along the way? Looks like a straight shot/easy ride. Any recommended natural areas, or landscape changes, or chow stops?

    Thanks!

    Sites 'tween Dallas %26amp; OKC?

If you travel from Dallas to OKC via Hwy 81, there is a nice hotel (Chisolm Suites) and a must-see Chisolm Trail Heritage Museum. It is state of the art and makes for a nice afternoon away from business, when traveling.

    Sites 'tween Dallas %26amp; OKC?

The Chisolm Suites Hotel is in Duncan, OK, between Dallas and OKC.

    Thank you.

Turner Falls and any of the areas around the Arbuckles are

    nice.

Stop by the beautiful University of Oklahoma campus in Norman.

I second the stop at Turner Falls... It%26#39;ll be a quick stop, but it%26#39;s worth seeing.

If you are going to go to Turner Fall%26#39;s don%26#39;t forget to take your bathing suit.... also check out Arbuckle Wilderness it%26#39;s a ton of fun. There are plenty of place and thing%26#39;s to do just gotta watch the signs... Plenty of ';chow'; as well... look off the beaten path don%26#39;t look to chain%26#39;s look to Mom and Pop places off the hiway they are usualy worth the trip.

Yes, I would recommend Turner Falls and the Arbuckle Wilderness in Southern Oklahoma. Also check out the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in the general vicinity with it%26#39;s mineral springs. Closer to the OKC metro area tour the beautiful University of Oklahoma campus - the Oklahoma Museum of Natural History is terrific. From a Northern Californian (originally from Oklahoma) who vacations in the Sooner State every Fall.

I%26#39;ll second the vote for Chickasaw National Recreation Area, in Sulphur, just east of I-35; be sure to stop by the Travertine Nature Center in the park. If going there or Turner Falls, stop by Davis%26#39;s main street: lots of antiques, nice coffee shop.

The Goddard Center in Ardmore frequently has some interesting art exhibits; you might want to call ahead to check.

The Natural History Museum in Norman is nice, as is the OKC Museum of Art; wonderful Chihuly (sp?) glass.

  • oklahoma city in a day

    Hi,

I am from England and currently travelling around the states with a friend. I will be coming to Oklahoma city at the start of May for only 2 nights. Any suggestions of whats best to do in a day?? Anywhere to stay?? Also is it tornado season??

    Thanks

    oklahoma city in a day

    Hi.

The Myriad Botanical Gardens and Crystal Bridge, Oklahoma City Home to tropical gardens, waterfalls and skywalks.

    Attraction type: Garden

You can also check out Bricktown and the canal are lively and has plenty of shopping, dining.

    Enjoy your stay.

    oklahoma city in a day

The Cowboy Hall and WEstern Heritage Museum is a must see as well as the Oklahoma City National Memorial is quite moving

Yes, it will be tornado season in May......

Yes, it is tornado season, but no, you do not have to worry about twisters. You will be sufficiently warned and told what to do in case one does come by. But honestly, nobody in OKC alters their lives because of our place in ';Tornado Alley';.

That said, you%26#39;ll enjoy Oklahoma City, a real American city. It%26#39;s changed from what you may have seen in London%26#39;s West End. The best place to spend time in is Bricktown, where you%26#39;ll find restaurants of different cuisines, plus our specialty, steak (I prefer Mickey Mantle%26#39;s Steakhouse). There you can also catch a baseball game, soak in the Oklahoma sky, watch a movie, buy outdoor goods, and go from club to club looking for dance partners or live music. If you want, a great pub is Tapwerks.

For a unique experience, jhallam, go to Stockyards City Monday or Tuesday morning and watch a cattle auction. Afterward, have lunch at Cattlemen%26#39;s Steakhouse and buy a cowboy hat at Tener%26#39;s. Later, you can go to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum to sample western art and see the cowboys (and indians) of the past.

E-mail me at contempone@yahoo.com if you need any more help...

Spiderturd needs to put his free time to better use. Any open-minded person will tell you Oklahomans are some of the most genuinely friendly people you%26#39;ll ever find.

It%26#39;s ridiculous to generalize an entire population into friendly or unfriendly!

All I can say is that on my numerous visits to Oklahoma, people have been wonderfully friendly and hospitable to me. I noticed that there is a bit of fear of the unknown or different. I wonder if that might be because it%26#39;s a landlocked state, without a major port to provide a link to the outside world.

Yes, it%26#39;s in the Bible Belt, but not all people belong to closed-minded fundamentalist evangelical churches.

OKC is a tough place to get around without a car. Most everybody drives. But Bricktown is a walking place, and that%26#39;s what makes it cool. People FINALLY get out of their cars and rub elbows.

Since you%26#39;re coming from England, you should try to find a real locals bar (pub). See if a cowboy will buy you a pint! But be warned, it%26#39;ll probably be a mass-produced American lager -- yuck!

Spider';turd'; go back to Rhode Island... it%26#39;s people like you who give a place like Oklahoma a bad name... narrowminded longwinded idiot%26#39;s with nothing better to do with their time than to run other people in the ground; because you are to lazy or stupid yourself to get your narrow minded butt out from behind a computer screen and go out and live in the real world. Take my advice if you don%26#39;t have anything nice to say keep your mouth closed you only make your self look like the fool you obviously are. You '; YANKEE%26#39;S'; think you have us '; REDNECK HILLBILLY%26#39;S'; all figured out. I have news for you; YOU DON%26#39;T!! Quit spouting drivel and and get a life.

Spiderturd: He cannot possibly be following you around because he posted in there before you.

    Buy honestly, I generally try to avoid taking advice from someone named ';spiderturd.';

    Have a good day.

spiderturd is incorrect. Oklahoma is not the only state that sells 3.2 beer in gorcery stores and gas stations. So does Kansas, Colorado, Utah and Minnesota. Get your facts straight, spiderturd.

    Weekend in Tulsa with grandchildren

I am going to be in Tulsa for just a few days the end of July and am looking for something fun to do with grandsons ages 2 to 11. I have read about the zoo, any other ideas?

    Weekend in Tulsa with grandchildren

The Zoo is outstanding, of course. Bell%26#39;s Amusement Park and the typical water parks are good, Celebration Station is fun, but the greatest new thing is Incredible Pizza at 71st and Memorial. They have cheap prices and go-carts, bowling, and all kinds of stuff INDOORS where it is air-conditioned. Your grandkids will love it. By the way, if you are in Tulsa on a Sunday, bring them to Victory Christian Center Sunday School.

    Have a happy day!

    Weekend in Tulsa with grandchildren

Check out the new Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks. There are lots of interactive exhibits, as well as big bull sharks. It%26#39;s quite an impressive aquarium for a city this size.

The aquarium, definitely! Was there in March visiting family, and though the kids weren%26#39;t with me, know they%26#39;d have loved it! A great representation of aquatic life. Jellyfish, octupus, sharks, eels, turtles, lake and river aquatics, ';petting'; the rays and more. See www.okaquarium.org :-)

    Red Stone Inn B & B?

Anyone know anything about the Red Stone Inn B %26amp;B?

    Thanks.

    Red Stone Inn B %26amp; B?

Did you mena the Stone Lion Inn

which is a bed and breakfast in Guthrie, OK

    which is near OKC, OK?

They do murder mysteries there during and after dinner. they can be found at Stonelioninn.com

    Red Stone Inn B %26amp; B?

We stayed at the Stone Lion Inn B %26amp; B (Guthrie) to celebrate our 25th anniversary last February. The food was great; it%26#39;s BOYB (we brought wine, but mixers are available). The room we stayed in was okay - typical of an old house (creaky floors). The fun part was the murder mystery.

Not personally but this might help:

  • Bricktown with 2.5 and 5 year old

Are there places in Bricktown that would be interesting to younger children? We have heard about the water taxi and the Bass Pro Shop. Anything else? Also, what restaurants would you recommend in the Bricktown area?

    Thanks!

Bricktown with 2.5 and 5 year old

Try The Mantel restaurant; lots of Bricktown is chain restaurants, but The Mantel is small and cozy with a diverse menu and a good wine list.

Don%26#39;t know of any other children%26#39;s activities in the area, though there%26#39;s a nice science museum (aimed at kids) and the zoo a few miles north.

Bricktown with 2.5 and 5 year old

The water taxis and bass pro are the two things most likely to be enjoyed by children. There is also an inground ';dancing'; fountains for children to play in near the entrance to Bricktown on Sheridan. Of course, there is the bricktown ballpark where the Triple-A Redhawks play, but that may not be the thing with very small children. There is also a nice new multi-screen cinema. As far as restaurants, kids would probably like Chelino%26#39;s, which is a large, very casual Mexican place on the canal. Coach%26#39;s, which is inside the ballpark but open whether or not there is a game, is an interesting location. Zio%26#39;s Italian and Spaghetti Warehouse are safe bets with kids too. Zio%26#39;s is a Tulsa-based chain and is located on the canal. For fast food, there is a Nothing but Noodles and the flagship Sonic (right next to their new headquarters) near the theater.

We just returned from OKC with out kids (9, 11, 16). Bricktown is mostly restaurants (we were a little dissapointed). Bass Pro Shop is great and the water taxi is OK. Other than that just dining, unless there is a ball game. There are lots of rides for little ones at Frontier City. You can get a discount ticket coupon in your motel. We went on the Tuesday and walked on to every ride. Parked right in front of the entrance too. We are from California and are used to 45 minute waits at theme parks here. If you go to Frontier City be sure to attend the Magic Show and Gunfight Show. The kids will really enjoy these. As far as restaurants we went to the Bricktown Brewery (A+) and Toby Keith%26#39;s (B) with out kids. Both had kid%26#39;s menus with very fair prices.

As mentioned earlier, there are water taxis, Bass Pro Shop, jumping fountains, a playground (on Reno behind Zio%26#39;s). Right now there are buffalo art statuettes, more public art statues, and some fascinating Native American gift shops. After Redhawks games you can sometimes see fire breathers or hear live music.

Just a little ways from Bricktown is Sam Nobles Natural History Museum... my 7 and 12 year old loved it. It has incredible dinosaur exhibits and awesome animal habitats. Really worth a 15 min drive South in my opinion. Copy and paste into your address bar :

    Groups near NW Expressway

Can anyone give me advice for American style eateries that cater to large groups with children. I%26#39;m bringing a couple of girls soccer teams and their parents to OKC in August and want to plan a group dinner. Probably 70 - 100 people.

It needs to be a somewhat diverse and not too expensive menu.

A place that would set up a limited but diverse menu for a fixed price would be ideal.

    Groups near NW Expressway

While I don%26#39;t have an answer to your specific question, I do know that NW Expressway has about every chain type eatery you can imagine. So if you can think of someplace that you%26#39;re familiar with that would do nicely, you could check the web page of that chain to find a northwest OKC phone number. How about something like Hometown Buffet?

    Groups near NW Expressway

Incredible Pizza is a great choice! Located at NW Expressway %26amp; MacArthur, fixed price ($6.99) for buffet - pizza, pasta, desserts - very good food, very clean. It also has bowling, go-carts, and a variety of video games - a lot of fun, but it can be expensive - so I put my kids on a budget. It%26#39;s all in doors %26amp; safe (families check in %26amp; out at door). They have different seating areas, if you call ahead they would probably reserve one.

There is also a Chili%26#39;s, located at NW Expressway %26amp; Rockwell. New location, but good food. Also at that intersection is a Quiznios, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bueno, Subway %26amp; Starbucks.

Another favorite of my family is Jason%26#39;s Deli. They are located just west of the intersection of NW Expressway %26amp; NW 63rd. The deli selection is great, there%26#39;s a nice salad bar and free soft servce ice cream. I would definately call ahead %26amp; speak with a manager, so they would be prepared. Also at this site is an Outback Steakhouse; Red Lobster %26amp; TGIF are across the street.

Another option is the food court at Penn Square mall (NW Expressway %26amp; Pennsylvania). It has a variety of reasonably priced choices.

Good luck to your soccer teams - enjoy your stay in OKC.

I think Incredible Pizza is your best bet. There is a buffet salad bar and a variety of pastas for the adults.

I would tell the girls to bring spending money though because all of the arcade and fun games do cost extra.

  • Microtel in Miami

Has anyone stayed here? There are no reviews for it but I would appreciate any feedback. We%26#39;re debating whether to stay here or at the Holiday Inn Express in Vinita which had good reviews.

    Appreciate any input.

    Thanks.

    Microtel in Miami

Haven%26#39;t stayed there. But a night in Miami is worth it -if only for the opportunity to eat at Gene Waylan%26#39;s Ku Ku Burger Drive in. Waylan%26#39;s a great guy - who personally is at the grill cooking every meal.

    Microtel in Miami

Have never stayed at that Microtel, but I have stayed at sevreal others here in OK, and all were good. Most are fairly new, and all have been very clean. Hope this helps.

smoker can't get room I want, help

Hi, I have been tring to get a clean room with a sitting area for my husband and myself, we will be in Oklahoma City for 3-4 days and would like to have a Refrig. and a place to sit and watch tv. A inside pool would be nice but not a must.

Ever time I find what I want they tell me that the large room are for non-smokers, all I can get is a bed and tv. I have been looking at 3 star hotels, If any one knows of a place please let me know. thanks

ps. we will be close to 40th and meridian the days we are there.

smoker can't get room I want, help

Have you tried Embassy Suites? They have refrigerators in the rooms as well as microwaves and coffeemakers. There is a seperate sitting area and an indoor pool. They also have a great breakfast buffet and evening cocktail reception that are both included in the room rate. I am pretty sure they have smoking rooms and I believe they are the same size as the non-smoking rooms.

Hello, I%26#39;m new here on the forum. I am a big fan of an up and coming country outlaw band here in Missouri--RENEGADE RAIL. I just found out they will be playing at Toby Keith%26#39;s new bar on July 12th. Can anyone tell me more about the bar...is it open yet? Where is it located (exactly)? Do they have a website? Anything you can tell me I would appreciate it!

And please, come check out the RAIL they are an AWESOME band and nice bunch of people too:

    Renegade Rail at TK's ';I Love This Bar %26amp; Grill';

No the bar is not open as of yet... but will be soon from my understanding; somewhere in the neighborhood of June 22, 2005. It%26#39;s location is Bricktown... which is part of Downtown Oklahoma City. Your best bet for Direction%26#39;s would be look at your map decide how you are going to come into OKC when you get there take the Robinson st. exit into downtown when you get to the bottom of the exit turn right go into bricktown it%26#39;s down the road about a mile or just a bit more on your right. Enjoy your stay in OKC.

Thanks for the info. especially the directions! If you get the chance, come out and hear RR on ';Red Dirt Tuesday';, July 12th. They put on a great live show, very high energy. Or you can catch them in August at the Wormy Dog Saloon there in Oklahoma City as well. Thanks again.

    It opens June 22, 2005.

Thanks for the info. cinfun. I guess the club decided to forgo having live entertainment on weeknights? That%26#39;s what I heard anyway. So it looks like Renegade Rail may play there on a weekend instead, sometime in October. Looking forward to it if they do. Thanks again!

    Moving into OKC area

I just love the stupid among us. If you don%26#39;t love it leave it!!! If you don%26#39;t do anything but go to work and go home and complain of course you are not going to see anything around you that is worth looking at or talking about most of the complaint%26#39;s that I am seeing on here are ';Redneck hypocrit stupid and bible thumper'; well that to me is a little racisit and fanatical and short sited. If you had a brain in your head you should use it instead of being dangerous with it.

I lived in OKC all of my life untill 12 year%26#39;s ago and now live in Indiana. I make the trip from Indiana to OKC 2 sometimes 3 times a year, true thing%26#39;s haven%26#39;t changed much but in a way that%26#39;s a good thing. There are area%26#39;s that have alway%26#39;s been rough and there are good neighborhood%26#39;s to raise a family and there are thing%26#39;s to do if you know where to look ( try the phone book) you can find them.

OKC has it problem%26#39;s and it%26#39;s working on them, I haven%26#39;t seen a city yet that doesn%26#39;t have it%26#39;s own set of problem%26#39;s, from air polution to crime rate to drug problem%26#39;s to teen pregnacy%26#39;s those problem%26#39;s exsist everywhere it%26#39;s not just in OKC Wake up and smell the garbage your spouting. (turd and dna) IF you don%26#39;t Like it in OKC then leave and don%26#39;t come back I know you won%26#39;t be missed, no one want%26#39;s a pin head for a neighbor God know%26#39;s I would not.

Yes Oklahoma is what you could call cowboy country, Most OKIE%26#39;S are proud of that... this state was settled by hard working men and women that wern%26#39;t afraid of life and what it held they were not afraid to leave all the knew, family friends and lifestiles to come west and make a life. That%26#39;s what%26#39;s called Fronteir spirit and you either have it or you don%26#39;t.

If you are looking for a nice middle class area to raise a family but still are young enough to appreciate the night life and don%26#39;t want to live to far from it may I recomend Bethany it is a small comunity attached to Oklahoma city and surounded by it. Just a short drive to Downtown. If your not into night life there is still plenty to do. In the Bethany area there is a wonderful Elemetary school and library in that area small town feel with big city access. Also the south side of town around the I-240 area is coming into it%26#39;s own as well smaller older home%26#39;s with some wonderful neighbor hoods my aunt and uncle have lived there for 35+ year%26#39;s and never had a problem I have a friend that just bought a house 2 year%26#39;s ago in that area and loves it she has 2 small children and has no problem letting them play in the front yard in the evening%26#39;s.

    Oklahoma is not for everyone.

Just about every post I have read on here has talked about Bricktown leaving out the fact that there is more to OKC than Bricktown it%26#39;s Lake Heffner and Lake Draper (MWC area) leaving out the numerous mall%26#39;s and all of the sport%26#39;s and festival%26#39;s as I write this to you tonight the Red Earth Festival began today it%26#39;s a wonderful learning experance for all ages. It is a celebration for the Native American%26#39;s they have art, dancing and food. There are local Rodeo%26#39;s that go on most weekends all over the state. There is baseball and softball for all ages. There is Swiming and all type%26#39;s of water sport%26#39;s on the lakes and rivers that suround the area. There are theaters and museums, there is a first class zoo in OKC as well.

Take some vacation time and check it out before you make a decision to move there take the kids with you. Call several of the school%26#39;s in the area%26#39;s that you are looking at and go talk to the Principal and some of the teaches ask to see test score%26#39;s and see if that is a school you want to put your kids into. I know they would be more than happy to talk to you. Talk to people that live in that area ask them about where they live don%26#39;t just take some people%26#39;s word for it find out for your self if this is where you realy want to raise your family. Because if you get there and then decide that you would have been better off staying where you were everyone will be miserable not just you.

The quickest way to make friends in a strange place is to be a friend first.... best thing I can recomend is IF you do decided to make OKC home... after you get settled throw and open house party for your neighbor%26#39;s nothing big and nothing fancy just a little neighborhood get together to get to know everyone, and let them get to know you. You will make friends quickly and easly. Thank you for your time in reading this long winded post. I hope I have help a bit.

    Moving into OKC area

This post won%26#39;t be as long winded but will definately echo this writer%26#39;s centiments. I lived in OKC for 20 years, was transferred to Kansas City about 10 years ago and CAN%26#39;T WAIT to be able to return.

Oklahoma is DEFINATELY not for everyone. It takes a very special person to not only live in Cowboy Country (wheter it be OK or TX) but to genuinely appreciate it. The people in both OK and TX have PRIDE and aren%26#39;t afraid to show it. They are also some of the most friendly and genuine people I have ever met. Most of the people in OKC would give you the shirt off of their back and not even think of stabbing you in the back while you%26#39;re putting it on. I sure can%26#39;t say that for the people in the KC area.

We spent 5 years in Edmond and although it is a thriving and a bit more upscale area it is a great community with plenty of shopping, theatres and attractions close at hand. We spent the last 15 years living about 10 miles east of Moore on acerage. Moore is a great community with a small town atmosphere but is still close enought to the city that you don%26#39;t have to pack a lunch to travel into town.

Bricktown has been a great plus for the OKC economy but believe me there is plenty of art, culture, fun, night life and just plain good people all over OKC. Like I said I CAN%26#39;T WAIT to move back home.

There was a great ariticle in the Wall Street Journal this week regarding OKC. It hightlights the improvements made downtown and talks about all of the improvements that OK has made in the last few years. It%26#39;s really worth reading, just copy and paste into your address bar:

    …wsj.com/article_email...HcaiGm4,00.html

Oklahoma has really come a long way from the redneck image that it used to have, although, of course, you will find those here too! But, that%26#39;s what makes the world go round, diversity and acceptance.

I hope some of the readers will give OK a chance, check it out and come visit.

Was in OKC about four years ago and visited Bricktown...was very nice. Visited again this summer was amazed with all the development .... awesome place to visit. Hope to visit again sometime in the future. :)

Animals in need coming from NO.. crosspost from a different...

This was sent to me by a dear friend and FEMA rescuer. Please read and help if possible. More to come.

    Greetings, all --

I am writing to this list because I know you%26#39;re all friends of pit bulls, and my daughter Molly is at this moment on the highway back from Louisiana with a load of four-legged survivors who need both temporary and permanent foster homes, IMMEDIATELY.

There are six pit bulls, a chow mix, a chihuahua mix, an unidentified mix, and three four-week-old pit bull pups taken from their mother because she was a bait-dog who had to be euthanized -- in too bad shape to survive. These particular dogs were transported after an agonizing ';best dogs'; triage made by Molly and the Neel Clinic Vet who were part of the FEMA animal crisis relief team that%26#39;s been working at the LSU Vet School animal rescue center in Baton Rouge for the past several days.

Their caravan will be getting in to Neel Veterinary Clinic about midnight tonight (Sunday) and most of the dogs need to be moved on, preferably tomorrow. Neel Clinic is generously supplying their veterinary care and eventual spaying/neutering.

PLEASE HELP IF YOU POSSIBLY CAN! These dogs have been through trauma of a magnitude we can hardly comprehend, and they deserve safe, warm, loving homes. Call Molly or me at home, (405) 848-5272 any time day or night. Or, Monday morning I will be in my office, (405)789-9105.

Thanks for whatever you can do, including passing the word to other dog-lovers who might provide safe homes for pit bulls. Please be very careful -- we want to be ABSOLUTELY SURE that none of these dogs fall into the hands of the damnable dog fighters.

oklahoma city horse show at state fairgrounds oct 8-15

We will be in town all week for the world championships morgan horse show. Where is there aplace to ride a mechanical bull and see live bullriding?what are the best eateries

oklahoma city horse show at state fairgrounds oct 8-15

As far as I know there aren%26#39;t any rodeos in town that weekend. The fair in Tulsa (about 1 1/2 hour drive, don%26#39;t know if that is too far) has a Championship PRCA Rodeo Saturday October 8th, followed by a concert (Jason Boland).

I also do not know of any places to ride a mechanical bull in OKC.

I would say check with the folks at the horse show on both accounts, they may be able to tell you if there are any small rodeos in the area.

However, if you are a fan of all things cowboy, and you have never been, please make time to visit the National Cowboy and Westerm Heritage Museum. You won%26#39;t be disappointed. The website is http://www.nationalcowboymuseum.org/

Hope you have a great time in Oklahoma!! And the weather is supposed to cool off by the weekend!!

Toby Keiths ';I Love This Bar & Grill'; in OKC Bricktown...

Does anybody know if Toby Keith锟斤拷s new restaurant in Bricktown has already opened and if not, when the opening day will be?

Toby Keith%26#65533;%26#65533;s ';I Love This Bar %26amp; Grill'; in OKC Bricktown...

It is not open yet, They just began construction early this month.

    It is still under construction. I drove by today and they have done a lot, ground breaking was in Nov 04, and last I heard, it is scheduled to be finished in April and open ';this summer';

It is still under construction. Groundbreaking was in Nov of 04. Last I heard, it is scheduled to be completed in April and open ';by summer';. I drove by today and there is a lot to be done!!

Still not open. Looking at June I believe.

The restaurant is scheduled for grand opening Wednesday June 22. My cousin%26#39;s band, Mark W. Mack, (www.markwmack.com) is scheduled to play Friday, June 24 and the following 5 Fridays. He plays a wide range of cover songs including country and rock. He also has some great originals.

Does anyone know where to apply for Toby Keith%26#39;s Restaurant?

To apply for Toby%26#39;s I love this bar and grill... I do belive they are now accepting application%26#39;s at the resturant. The phone # isn%26#39;t listed yet I don%26#39;t think. There was a sign outside the building 3 day%26#39;s ago. Check to make sure.

Countrybob: It opens today, June, 21 ! Wear shorts and flip flops though, it%26#39;s hotter n pistol here right now...

Actually, it opens tomorrow...the 22nd. It%26#39;s only about 88 or 90 degrees here.

This was the worst place I have ever been. Someone needs to let Toby know that we waited four hours to be seated, and then waited another hours for service. The music was so loud that the entire family covered their ears. I am usually not a picky person, but this place was the worst. I would turn that four million dollar investment into parking garage! We got up andleft and never received our food. Our group had both young and older adults, and not one of us will ever go back!

  • Visiting Oklahoma City/Tulsa last week of December, need...

My husband, myself and 6 year old daughter are traveling from Iowa to Oklahoma the last week of December for family fun. We are planning on staying 4-5 days between Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Can anyone suggest good places to stay, we want a nice, reasonably priced hotel in either city with a great pool.

Also if there are ';not to miss'; things we should do, or places to dine, non-chain please, let us know! We can%26#39;t wait to visit!

    Thanks!

    Shari

Visiting Oklahoma City/Tulsa last week of December, need...

Neither Tulsa nor OKC is known for its unique local hotels. My favorite is the Hotel Ambassador in Tulsa, but it doesn%26#39;t have a pool that I%26#39;m aware of. The Waterford in Oklahoma City (now the Marriott Waterford) also has a uniqueness about it; I believe its pool is outdoors but heated. You might want to check on both of those. Perhaps your best bet would be to stay near the downtown/ Bricktown area of Oklahoma City where you%26#39;ll find a good Renaissance, Sheraton, and Courtyard (I don%26#39;t know about pools for them). Otherwise, you%26#39;re pretty much looking at a chain place along a major highway, to the best of my knowledge.

Both cities have fine art museums, the OKCMOA in OKC and the Gilcrease and the Philbrook in Tulsa. Downtown Tulsa has phenomenal art-deco architecture, and OKC has the Murrah bombing memorial. For me, all of those would be ';don%26#39;t miss'; activites.

Aside from that, what kinds of activities and adventures do you like? Tell me more about your interests, and I%26#39;ll see if I can come up with more suggestions.

Visiting Oklahoma City/Tulsa last week of December, need...

Radio, thanks for the info, no need to be a unique hotel, just a nice hotel with a nice pool. That is one of the things our daughter said we had to have.

We are definatly looking to see the memorial in Oklahoma City. We are looking for family fun for us (in our early 30s) and our 6 year old daughter. I read about the tubing hill in downtown OK City, is that a good one? But she does like science, zoo%26#39;s, dinosaurs, animals, music and art.

Thanks for the help! I think downtown area might be a good idea... know anything about the Embassy Suites?

    Thanks again,

    Shari

I know that the Courtyard Downtown in a very nice hotel. We stayed there last June and was very pleased with it. I think it is like less than two years old. The beds were so comfortable. They do have a indoor pool. You have to pay for parking at the parking garage since there is not much parking in downtown. I know that the Embassy Suites have an indoor pool also. I have not stayed there though. The memorial is a must. I think you can call this number at the okc visitors Bureau and ask for an Oklahoma City Visitors Guide and this book has all the hotels and information about downtown in it. The number is 1-800-225-5652. Hope this helps.

    Marianna

Oh Shari, I didn%26#39;t notice the six year old before. Here%26#39;s the perfect thing for her: the Museum of Natural History in Norman (on the southern edge of the OKC metropolitan area). Dinosaurs and other great kid-friendly exhibits. http://www.snomnh.ou.edu/

The Omniplex science museum is also great fun for kids. And it%26#39;s right next to the OKC zoo. http://www.omniplex.org/

I haven%26#39;t been to the OKC zoo in years, so I can%26#39;t comment on it, but the Tulsa zoo has a wonderful indoor rain forest, a walk-in exhibit with the animals in among native plants and the birds flying free. Very nice.

They put up an outside ice skating rink in OKC near the symphony hall; should be open when you%26#39;re here.

Thanks Mary and Radio, you have both been great help! I have the Tulsa Zoo down on the list, as well as the Museaum in Norman and the Omniplex. We are so looking forward to the trip!

    Thanks!

    shari

    Shari,

We were in OKC over the weekend visiting the OKC Museum of Art. They have a great (permanent) exhibit of Chihuly glass sculptures; I think even your six-year-old would like it. Very colorful.

The Courtyard that Mary recommended is in a great location in Bricktown, which is an entertainment district built in an old warehouse area. You will find lots of dining, clubs, a new multi-screen cinema, and a Bass Pro Shop in close proximity.

    Hope your trip is great.

    Kevin

Kevin, the art museaum sounds great! She loves art, and I think it would make for a afternoon. We are definatly looking at downtown OK City, sounds really cool for exploring, and hear depending on the weather, the canal boat will be running.

We did decided to stay at the Resident%26#39;s Inn in OK City and also Tulsa, and have heard good things about them. Can%26#39;t wait to hit the malls too!

Kevin, do you work on radio? I see your screen name has radio in it? I worked 10 years in the business.

    Shari

If you are staying at Residence Inn West (off Reno) you may want to change your mind. It is somewhat run down and in real need of updating.

The Residence Inn - Crossroads Mall is a nice place and is much newer. Also, sits in the parking lot of a shopping mall and you can walk to one of the newest movie theaters in town.

Also, it is right off of I-35.

A little further out is the Residence Inn - Norman, which is WONDERFUL. I stayed there last week and have decided that I will stay there when I return to OKC (I travel up there at least once a month).

we are staying at the Resident%26#39;s in by the mall. Thought it would be a good idea since I so love to shop! They have a great Holiday special, just 89 a night, and very worth the price with a hot breakfast and a managers reception each week night.

I did see pictures of the one you were saying needs updating, I could not agree more!

    Thanks,

    Shari

If you are into state history, the Oklahoma History Center just opened this past Saturday. It is located near the state capital, just off of N.E.23rd St. on Laird Ave. The exact address is 2401 N Laird Ave. OKC. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Kids 5 and younger are free. Hours are M-Sat. 9:00-5:00, 12:00-5:00 on Sunday.

There was a big write up in the Tulsa Sunday paper and it looked very interesting!

    Dining in Tulsa

My husband and I will be spending two nights in Tulsa in mid-February. We will probably dine at the Polo Grill one night. Any other suggestion?

    Dining in Tulsa

Try the Stonehorse, also in Utica Square.

    Dining in Tulsa

I thought that we would have lunch there.

I have read about Table Ten, Celebrity Club, Mahagony%26#39;s--what do you think about these?

    Thanks

Sorry, I%26#39;ve not heard of any of those restaurants. (I%26#39;m not in Tulsa, but visit fairly often). There%26#39;s a nice Mediterranean place, Mezza%26#39;s, on south Peoria, near the Brookside area where you%26#39;ll find lots of interesting establishments, from pottery shops to eateries. You%26#39;ll also find lots of restaurants on 15th Street (aka Cherry Street); we like Tucci%26#39;s, which is a neighborhood Italian place.

The Spagetthi Warehouse wasn%26#39;t that bad when we ate there.

Polo is excellent but VERY quiet in the back (I prefer to eat in the front). If you like to have it quiet and have the chef work for you alone, go to the Polo.

    McGill%26#39;s has excellent steak...

Table ten is good, but does not have the ambiance. I like Ciao, Baby! on Peoria. Mahogany is good too, but pricey for what you get. Polo grill is great, and Ciao, Baby! is owned by the same people, but two different restaurants.

Flavors. It is rather plain-looking on the outside, but the food is absolutely wonderful inside. It%26#39;s a little pricey, but you pay for quality. They have a noted reputation. They have a casual dining area and a formal area. We%26#39;re going there for Valentines.

    Ti%26#39;Amos--Romantic, great food, mid-priced.

Molly%26#39;s Landing is in Catoosa, just outside of Tulsa, but it%26#39;s in a wooded area and wonderful atmosphere. (Romantic in a woodsey way!)

If you love great steaks, Spudders has gotten tons and tons of awards. It%26#39;s at the Farm Shopping Center--51st/Sheridan. It looks like an old barn on the outside and the waiters/waitresses dress up in farm clothes. I used to work in a corporate marketing firm and that was a frequent request for taking our customers to. And the prices are very reasonable.

Another place we used to take customers was The French Hen. Pricey, specialized, very small and intimate, wonderful food.

For fish/sea food--a little more upscale price-wise, Atlantic Sea Grill or Bodeans. The better atmosphere is Atlantic. The better food quality is Bodeans--both customer favorites.

    Hope this helps!

I just happened to think of something else. I am not sure what part of town you will be staying while you are here. The restaurants I mentioned, all but one, are in South Tulsa. South Tulsa is in the nicer part of town, and not too far from Woodland Hills Mall, which is the biggest mall in Tulsa. The area of Brookside and around Utica Square has the ';really'; rich and old $$ surrounding it.

Sheridan Pond Executive Suites. Contact Jamie Good there. It%26#39;s a wonderful place and she%26#39;ll take great care of you.

    Bricktown Suites

My friend and I are coming in to OK city to ';meet in the middle'; and made reservations at Bricktown Suites there in OK city. We chose this because it looked unique and was slated as upscale. Now as we look a little further we see that there are some poor reviews and we can find no pictures or a telephone number to call them. Does anyone have a number for the Guesthouse International-Bricktown or Bricktown Guest Suites? Thanks Friends in the Middle

    Bricktown Suites

The OKC Convention %26amp; Visitors Bureau lists this information:

    Bricktown Guest Suites

    3850 S. Prospect, 73129

    405-670-5800

Not where I would want to stay; probably five miles south of Bricktown on the I-35. There%26#39;s a brand new Courtyard right in Bricktown, and the Renaissance by the convention center (and an easy walk to Bricktown) is frequently not too expensive on the weekends; either would be a far better choice.

    Bricktown Suites

I have not heard of Brictown Suites. However as Radio63 has suggested there are some nice hotels in the area. That area that has been suggested is pretty central to I-35 and I-40 and easy access on and off the highway.

I-40 and Meridan area also has some hotels with a lot of nice restaurants nearby. (Outback, Zios, Charlestons, etc.) Some of these hotels may be addressed on Meridian or Reno.

    Enjoy your stay.

Don%26#39;t stay here. They have named themselves Bricktown Suites to mislead poor people like you who don%26#39;t know any better into thinking that this is in Bricktown....it%26#39;s not. It%26#39;s right on the Interstate in a not very nice area....cancel your reservations and look at the Courtyard Marriott downtown.

By ';poor people like you';, I meant, out of town visitors who don%26#39;t know the area. I apologize....reread after posting and thought it sounded a little, ummm, harsh.

Bricktown Suites are neither in Bricktown, nor sweet. STAY AWAY.

DO NOT STAY HERE! Your first choice when you arrive in town and kick yourself if you are staying at that sad misleading place, will be The Renassiance Hotel. ( new, glass elavator, beautiful enviroment, rest. bar, spa, walking distance ';stuff'; IN Bricktown.

Second choice Marriot courtyard! ( walking distance to ';stuff'; IN bricktown, bright bold colors, new, new, clean, no room service but brkf. buffet!

A tie for second is the sheraton newly renovated. walking distance, IN bricktown room service ,rest. bar ect.

p.s. Everyone says walking distance, it is but i usually drive because i%26#39;m lazy or we may take the kids. but whereever you go in bricktown you will have to pay for parking and hike! 10 dollar parking gets you closer but is usually taken. If you use the parking garage, its 5 bucks but again your still hiking. WE live here so we are use to it and the price we pay for the only fun okc offers.

I know this is quite forward, but I would appreciate some honest answers. Should we anticipate prejudism or any hate from the OKC community? Hi Suzan.

You should not have any trouble in OKC or Edmond. I would stay away from the small rural towns outside of the city. My daughter has a friend in her third grade class whose family is from Pakistan and also Muslim and she (her friend) has not had any trouble. In fact the schools celebrate Multi-cultural day every year and every one is invited to share their heritage with the class. I hope things go well and congratulations on your new baby.

Oklahomans are, by and large, a welcoming, friendly group. Parts of the state are a little ';protected'; from outside influences; it%26#39;s less that the small towns will be hostile than that the small towns will find your dress unusual. I live in a small town, and we have people of all different faiths and nationalities; you would be welcome here as well.

    thanks

    Suzan,

I’m an Oklahoman, born %26amp; raised, and still have family there, however for the last 20 years I’ve lived in San Diego, CA but for the first 32 years in Oklahoma City.

When I meet people, who ask where I’m from and I say “Oklahoma” – if they’ve ever lived there, traveled through there or just know someone else who’s an Oklahoman, they always say that they believe Oklahoman’s are the nicest and most helpful of folks.

I don’t believe you will experience any trouble, you might get a question or two but that just us being curious. Were a “welcoming” group of people, I think you will enjoy living in Oklahoma and Oklahoma City.

    Sincerely,

    Donna Turner

    Weekend

    Hello:

I will be in the area the last part of February? I will only have a Saturday

and maybe sunday. Please telll me the sites I should see, will I need a car...How far is the airport from the Memorial Park?

    Thanks

    Weekend

Don%26#39;t miss the bombing memorial. A beautiful and moving tribute. Also the Oklahoma Historical museum is a great place to learn about our history. It%26#39;s in a beautiful new building just east of the state capitol. I%26#39;m not sure where the ';Memorial Park'; is. But, if you can get a good deal on a car for a day, it might be worth it. Bricktown is very cool as well. Shops, canal, restaurants and sites. Very far to walk between things. If you have the time, the National Cowboy Heritage Museum is also beautiful. Hopet his helps.

    Weekend

Good suggestions Cindysu. Let me add a few more. The OKC Museum of Art, just west of downtown and very near the bombing memorial, is nearly new and has a fine small collection; the Chihuly glass alone is worth the visit. They often have fine travelling exhbits; I believe that Mexican paintings will still be on display in late February. Also, late February is Oscar month at their theater; a good chance to see an Oscar-nominated movie. www.okcmoa.org While you%26#39;re in that area of town, notice all the fine art deco buildings.

If you rent a car (probably a good idea), you might want to drive to Norman, which is on the south edge of the metro area, about 15 miles south of downtown OKC. The Museum of Natural History is stunningly good, especially if you%26#39;re travelling with children. http://www.snomnh.ou.edu/

Also in Norman, the OU campus houses a nice art museum with an outstanding collection of impressionistic paintings. http://www.ou.edu/fjjma/

    Hotels near Oklahoma State

I am planning to go to Stillwater for parents weekend (Sept 30-Oct 2). All Stillwater hotels are booked. Since I am unfamiliar with the area, can anyone tell me the name of a nearby city that may have vacancies? Thanks in advance.

    Hotels near Oklahoma State

The closest towns I can think of are Perry, or Guthrie. They are both on I 35 about 30 miles from Stillwater. Perry I know has a Best Western, Super 8, and Days Inn. Guthrie has a Best Western and a Sleep Inn.

    Hotels near Oklahoma State

Don%26#39;t know how far you want to drive, but Tulsa and Oklahoma City are both only an hour away. There will be plenty of options at both.

Ponca City is only about 45 minutes away from Stillwater - just another option to consider!

Thanks for your responses. The cities you mentioned do have hotels available. One more question...anyone know how bad the Motel 6 in Stillwater is? I was surprised to find they have vacancies. Wondering if it is acceptable basically just for sleeping in, or would you stay somewhere else that is about 30 minutes away? Thanks!

As far as I know the Hotel is clean and would be great if just for sleeping. It would have had to have had a great decline in a year to not be good for sleeping.

you can go to a town called guthrie which is about 45min to 1 hour south of stillwater . great clean motel, with reasonable rates.

  • Soon To Be Sooner

    Hi Yall,

My family is moving to NE OK around the 1st of Nov. Husband is moving with his job to Afton. We have 2 daughters ages 8 and 10. Would like info on the town and also rentals for homes as we will need to rent for one year before we buy as to make sure the new job will work out. Any Info would be wonderful !

    Thanks J. from Mo.

    Soon To Be Sooner

If your smart you%26#39;ll consider moving to another location other than Afton, I grew up there and still have friends, but there is nothing there. Oklahoma taxes are too high. I%26#39;m sorry to be so negative but that%26#39;s life. And to the residents of Afton, if you read this and you feel resentful about my comments, hey you made the town what it is today. Nothing.

    Soon To Be Sooner

I don%26#39;t know much about Afton, but my mom lives in Grove, which is quite a boom town. Lots of goods and services there, as well as nice people (mostly retired, it seems), and more coming every day.

Northeast Oklahoma is nice because of proximity to Tulsa, one of my favorite small cities because of its fine museums and neighborhoods. Also, you%26#39;ll be near great natural areas. Fishing, hiking, floating, boating: everything is in the area. The Illinois River is still the best free flowing river in the area, Grand Lake is large and pleasant, you%26#39;ll be near lots of great hiking in northwest Arkansas, etc.

Oklahoma is actually a moderate tax state, higher than some, lower than most. While our sales taxes tend to be on the high side, our property taxes tend to be dirt cheap. You%26#39;ll find that your home-buying dollar goes a long way here.

I live in SE OK and would invite ya%26#39;ll to explore the Kiamichi country! Many great lakes for camping, fishing, swimming...Tenkiller, Eufala, etc. ;)

    Camping at Broken Bow

We are trying to plan a multi family camping trip for labor day weekend and would like to know which camping area is the best. We are looking for a place that has electricity and water plus showers on site. A plus would be one that we can make reservations in advanced as we will need atleast three sites side by side.

    Camping at Broken Bow

Well the problem is there is no electric and water actually on the water. There are some really nice places pretty close though! You must get there early or they will all be gone!

    cains ballroom

    hello all

my wife and i are flying over from the uk to drive route 66 and are staying overnight in tulsa friday july 7th. i fancy going to cains ballroom is it open even when bands arenot playing, is it worth going to and lastly is there a decent hotel/motel nearby.

    thanks

    cains ballroom

Not sure if Cain%26#39;s is open when a band isn%26#39;t playing, but can almost guarantee that a band will be playing there on a Friday night in the summer. At least 4 hotels within 3 miles with the Ambassador getting the best reviews of those. The Ambassador is also unique to Tulsa if that is what you are looking for on your trip. FYI, be prepared for the temp to at least be in the 90%26#39;s that time of year in OK.

  • New Cabins

For all who are interested there are two brand new cabins being built on Broken Bow Lake. From what I have seen they are are going to be great. They are secluded and very unique. Take a look at www.theeagleridgecabins.com

    New Cabins

For all who are interested there are actually NOT any cabins on Broken Bow Lake--it%26#39;s a Corp of Engineer lake w/absolutely no commercial/private development of any kind. It is indeed beautiful and worth seeing, but you%26#39;ll have to stay in a cabin that is no closer than a couple of miles or so from the lake shore, and not within actual walking distance.

This web site that was posted says these cabins are ';located on Broken Bow Lake'; ...that is as false as it can be. No cabins are located on this lake--I know, I have spent much time there. These cabins may be OK, but they%26#39;re not located on the lake...that is deceiving. No offense is intended to the owners here, but they should not deliberately mislead the public. Everyone wants a cabin located ';on the lake';. Using this ploy to draw interest when it%26#39;s not true is unethical.

    nightlife

Hi,will be in oklahoma city for 3 days, whats the best area to stay in for bars and nightclubs within walking distance? Also any areas to avoid?

    cheers

    nightlife

You probably want to stay near the Bricktown area, which is just east of downtown Oklahoma City. Look for hotels in Bricktown (there%26#39;s an almost new Courtyard) or in downtown (there%26#39;s a nice Sheraton and a nice Renaissance). But be aware that some hotels are using ';bricktown'; in their name even though they are not in Bricktown.

    nightlife

There%26#39;s a Marriott right in Bricktown - it%26#39;s very nice and very well located.

    405.232.2290

    Have fun!

Just to save confusion, Rammy, the phone number Amanda gave is for the Courtyard I mentioned earlier. Courtyard is a separate chain of hotels run by Marriott.

rammy only area to stay would be bricktown...dozen restaurants and bars within walking distance...depends on the nights, but you should tryout Citywalk, which has 6 or 7 different bars inside....SkyBar for dancing, Brewery and Tapwerks for beers...My wife goes for the martinis at Drinkz....Those places should be busy from thurs-sat

  • Concerts in Tulsa

We live in southeastern SD and I%26#39;ve always been drawn to the Tulsa area. Not sure why cause we%26#39;ve never been there and don%26#39;t have family there. I%26#39;ve done a lot of research and found a lot of wonderful things there that we%26#39;d love to see. The zoo and aquarium in Jenks and the Methodist Church just to name a few. It just looks like a beautiful city. We live in a small town and aren%26#39;t used to traffic so we%26#39;re opting to fly down and take the bus to the places we want to see. My question is about concerts in Tulsa. Is there a website where we can see what%26#39;s coming for entertainment? We like the golden oldies music of the 60s and 70s. Does anyone know of a place that regularly would hold those types of concerts or dances?

    Concerts in Tulsa

Hey Jammie. I%26#39;ve been to Mitchell! Glad to hear that you%26#39;re planning a visit to Oklahoma.

Tulsa is really a fairly small city, easy to navigate and negotiate. I%26#39;m not sure how great their bus system is, but you shouldn%26#39;t worry about renting a car. It%26#39;s not like driving in Dallas or New York.

I%26#39;m not sure of specific music venues to suggest, but here are some web pages to consult. Music-cal (www.musi-Cal.com) is a searchable data base of live music events; just put in Tulsa and go from there. Urban Tulsa (www.urbantulsa.com) is a local weekly entertainment newspaper; it will give you a list of clubs with live music and of upcoming events, though not a lot of details. Cain%26#39;s Ballroom is an historic venue with live music every weekend; the type of music changes regularly, but you can check the latest schedule (www.cainsballroom.com).

    Hope that helps.

Hi Radio, it%26#39;s nice to hear that someone from down there was up here and is even familiar with the town I come from. Small world, heh??? Thank you so much for those links and the info. It looks like Cain%26#39;s Ballroom has some good entertainment at times. Thanks again.

Jammie, About 40 years ago, my grandfather showed me some pictures of the Corn Palace. I was fascinated. So when I got older, first time I headed to Montana, I made a point of going to Mitchell on the way. Nice people in Mitchell and we had a good lunch there. My wife thought I was pulling her leg about the Palace, but it was everything I hoped it would be. I%26#39;ll get there again one of these days.

Cains is quite an historic place. You%26#39;ll enjoy going there.

In addition to Boston Ave. Methodist, downtown Tulsa has a great many art deco buildings. Be sure to check them out.

And the Gilcrease Museum (www.gilcrease.org) has a great western art collection.

Radio, glad you liked the Palace. It%26#39;s often used as such a joke that it takes away from the uniqueness and beauty of it. It really is art. Since you%26#39;ve been here and know what traffic we%26#39;re used to, what is your opinion on this. We%26#39;ve considered driving to Tulsa and trying to find our way around there AND we%26#39;ve considered just flying down and using TulsaTransit. Would we be overwhelmed by the traffic since we have never been in the area and aren%26#39;t familiar with anything?

First, you have to understand that I am a driving fool; my answers may be skewed. I would rather drive anywhere than fly; I hate the whole hurry-up-and-wait, airport herd mentality. Plus I always get a cold after I fly. So for me, driving is always the best way to get there. And I%26#39;ve never seen a city I couldn%26#39;t get around in (although Boston is pretty discouraging for out-of-town drivers). I even drove in London fresh off an overnight flight, so nothing much bothers me.

That said, I think you would find Tulsa easy to negotiate. The streets are generally straight and grid like. The highways are generally uncrowded and well marked. Drivers tend to be courteous. If you look at a map and have a mental picture of where you%26#39;re headed before you start, you should be fine.

Keep in mind that Tulsa%26#39;s not a huge city. Less than a million in the whole urban area. This is much smaller than Minneapolis, Kansas City, or Denver, for example.

Thanks again for the info. We%26#39;re pretty opposite about the driving scene. LOL I love to fly and be there NOW. I have motion sickness and car traveling is not my thing. A million people sounds like a lot of people to this old hick. That%26#39;s more then the population of SD. LOL I just know it%26#39;ll be worth the trip though and it%26#39;s good to hear that driver%26#39;s are courteous because my impression of OK is that people would be friendly just like they are up here.

30 year resident of Tulsa here.

IMHO, our bus system is no where near what you might expect from a metropolitan city. Although I have noticed lately that they have been making efforts to improve, I believe buses are still few and far between, and not frequented by the general public. Additionally, I don%26#39;t believe our taxis are regulated, and you won%26#39;t see any except maybe at the airport - you would have to call for one even downtown. If anyone disagrees with me, feel free to chime in.

I would suggest that you rent a car - Tulsa is a very drivable city (laid out in a grid) and other than the 71st and Memorial shopping area, there is rarely heavy traffic.

Tulsa is really easy to drive around--streets are gridlike %26amp; street names are organized (either numbers or alphabetically. You should definitely rent a car rather than plan on city buses. Traffic is not at all like that in a larger city--very easy to drive here. And don%26#39;t forget to visit the Philbrook Museum, a wonderful old oil mansion built in the early 1900%26#39;s, now a museum, with excellent (%26amp; recently rebuilt) gardens. Cains %26amp; Tulsa World websites are two of the best to track the music scene here. If you%26#39;re a zoo fan, we%26#39;ve been spending a lot in the last few years improving the Tulsa Zoo.

    Spring Season???

I%26#39;ve been following the weather down there for nearly a year now and it looks like on the average, you%26#39;re way ahead of SD for springtime. (Sorry to see you had a couple of icy days this weekend) Anyway, Woodward Park is something we%26#39;re really interested in seeing. Would the middle of March be awfully early to see green grass, trees with leaves, flowers blooming? If it is, could you tell me what time I%26#39;m looking for? April? May?

    Spring Season???

We vary a lot from year to year; sometimes the cold hangs around and slows things down. I%26#39;ve seen daffodils blooming in January here (we%26#39;re about 60 miles south of Tulsa), but this year their foilage was only about three inches tall before this last frost. We shall see what that did to them.

I%26#39;d say April is a good bet. We have a lot of blooming pears and redbuds down here; if it%26#39;s too late for the pears, you%26#39;ll get the redbuds (they grow wild in the forests, so that%26#39;s fun). Tulips or maybe iris should be blooming. If you want full leafing on the trees and guaranteed green grass, wait until early May.

But this winter has been extremely dry (winter is usually our rainiest time, but we had almost no rain Oct-Dec), so your guess is as good as mine on what that will do to the spring green season.

    Spring Season???

I agree there%26#39;s a good chance mid April - mid May would be the window of choice. However the 93 degree temp on March 1, already has the Bradford Pears budding out - not to mention the daffodils that were already open. Woodward Park truly tries to keep the azaleas thriving. The Tulsa Rose Garden which is adjacent to Woodward promotes the Rose Garden beginning in early May. Definitely worth the walk through for not only their eye appeal but the fragrance. I encourage you to check out the Tulsa Garden Center website. You can find it through Google.

Bradford pear trees are already beginning to bloom this week, given the warm weather we%26#39;ve been having. Usually mid-April is a great time to catch Woodward Park azaleas in full bloom.

30 year resident of Tulsa, here. I agree with the others - mid April for Woodward park. So long as the dry winter / late freeze didn%26#39;t change things, the azaleas will be beautiful. Be sure to visit nearby Philbrook museum, too, the formal gardens are beautiful.

I can also point you to some terrific restaurants in that area, if you are interested. Hubby and I are foodies, every cuisine, every price range, so name your desire (here, or a new post, if you like)

Mid-April for flowers, Mid-May for great weather, Mid-June to Late-September for water-skiing on area lakes. Be sure to visit the Phil brook when you are here, is basically right around the corner from Woodard park and MUCH better.

Thinking of move to Tulsa, OKC, Austin???

Any suggestion for a mature Urban person moving from downtown Chicago looking for community-neighborhood with walking and local amenities plus public transportation. More interested in apt. or condo than house. We like to be able to leave our apartment and walk to stores/movies/restaurants/library and have a safe neighborhood. Lived on Near-north side of Chicago near Oak Street Beach and Lincoln Park.

    WE DO NOT like suburbs.

    Is there any recommendation?

    Thank you.

Thinking of move to Tulsa, OKC, Austin???

Tulsa, OKC, and Austin are all suburbs!

Austin, OKC, and then Tulsa in that order have the lifestyle your looking for. Austin is the bigger of the three with the biggest downtown but the highest cost of living of the three.

OKC with it%26#39;s downtown seeing a new beginning with Bricktown, condos, and the NBA Hornets is probably your best bet.

    Good luck.

Thinking of move to Tulsa, OKC, Austin???

Have lived in Tulsa since 1956. Live %26amp; work downtown. New arena under construction, a lot of new residential development downtown; slowly growing bar/restaurant scene downtown, set to accelerate. Cal. investor recently purchased 1/4 of available downtown buildings, %26amp; is ';betting on the come'; with the new arena under construction, small but growing residential %26amp; night-life scene downtown. Tulsa has very low cost of living; very easy to get around; good live music; good art scene.

Thank you for the very informative post. We are visiting the towns in Oklahoma in the Spring and will keep your information as a reference.

I%26#39;ll chip this for OKC. We have a growing arts district with hundreds of condo/apartment units under construction. Among what%26#39;s available now is the nicely restored Montgomery:

Everything you need is within walking distance. To find out what%26#39;s waiting for you if you live there, check out

Another community not in downtown, but still true blue inner OKC, is The Classen tower condos developed by the same company: www.theclassen.com

Public transportation? Be aware that public transportation in the southwest consists of sharing the back of a pick up truck with mexican migrant workers. Seriously, none of the cities you mentioned have REAL public transportation. If that is really a priority for you, you might need to stay in Chicago or go to NYC.

Btw, of the cities you mentioned Tulsa is my fav.

    whats up in Tulsa?

Hello all, I%26#39;ve been to Tulsa a couple of times over the past 6 months, I%26#39;m thinking of moving there - I%26#39;ve been back here in Connecticut for about 15 years, but this place just keeps getting more and more crowded and expensive - our electric rates were justed raised 23%! I own a small business, so I%26#39;m always aware of ';what the overhead is';. I used to live in Texas and liked it a lot. I%26#39;ve been to about 10 cities from CharlotteNC west to Ok City, but somehow Tulsa seems to be rising to the top of the list.....it seemed very managable as far as traffic, cost of living, etc. I spent some time up and down Mem Drive, saw the YMCA, golf courses, nice apts, - I know theres a lot more to Tulsa , but I wanted some feedback as to what the overall trend is there, and any other general comments about the quality of life in Tulsa....thanks all. Bobby.

    whats up in Tulsa?

Well Bobby, by now you may have already moved to Tulsa! But as a native Tulsan, I will say this city is growing too. The quality of life is very general question, and I can only share how it is for me. For the most part, no matter what the TV news says about crime, I feel very safe here. Traffic truly isn%26#39;t a problem, unless it%26#39;s due to construction - and right now Yale Ave which is the main street to my home, my office, my grocery store.. you name it... is torn up and has made me find new routes to everywhere. One thing I believe you%26#39;ll find about Tulsa is the overall friendliness and helpfulness of the people. And as a small business owner myself, you%26#39;ll find the Chamber of Commerce here most supportive.

Let me know if there are specific things you would like to know... and hope you become one of us!

    whats up in Tulsa?

Julie and Bill : Thanks for the feedback, I was in Tulsa in late January, it was about 5:30 pm on a Thursday, and I got out of town on the highway without delay - that was impressive! I felt quite safe in Tulsa, I think all cities are somewhat alike in that there are always good neighborhoods and bad neighborhoods, you get what you pay for. I%26#39;m still crunching some numbers, but I think all things considered, Tulsa is an excellent city. Thanks for your post. Bob.

Bobby, compared to Connecticut you will find the quality of life in Oklahoma to be quite a change. You will find the pace to be slow, the atmosphere to be relaxed, the weather to be warm, and the people to be friendly.

Another Tulsan here. I%26#39;d say that we have ZERO traffic compared to cities in your neck of the woods. In fact, since we moved here from Dallas in 1998 I told my wife that she should kick me out if I ever complain about traffic in Tulsa. Oh, the cost of living is very affordable and the pace is MUCH slower than larger cities. If that%26#39;s too your liking, come on down to t-town.

Like I say, I was impressed with the fact that I had no delays whatsoever in getting out of Tulsa at 5:30 PM on a Thursday - keep in mind I was in a rental car and had a 23 hour ride ahead of me back to CT. I work weird hours so I can usually circumvent the traffic, but it seems like you always hit it when you least want to. I spent a little time around Mem Drive, saw the Thornton YMCA, La Fortune Park, all the shops and stores, I figure pretty much all I need in Tulsa can be found right in that area. When I look at the cost of real estate, Tulsa looks like a bargain compared to CT - people here are paying $60-70M/acre FOR SWAMPLAND, just to live in the ';right'; suburb. It%26#39;s not worth it, I don%26#39;t like the suburbs anyways. Thanks for the feedbacks, people. Bobby.

Tulsa is a very livable smaller city, with VERY LOW cost of living! No traffic, great homes. Good business climate and getting better. Great live music scene, good arts (opera, ballet %26amp; some growing independent theatre companies) %26amp; minor league sports (all the fun without the high cost).

Lately crime has been in the news--our murder rate is up, but these are not ';stranger murders'; but are almost always acquaintances or gang related.

And if you like golf, there are some great public courses here and of course some excellent private courses as well. We can play 9 mo./year on average--plus some in the winter if you%26#39;re willing to go play on a workday if it gets up above 50%26#39;.

Moving here from CT you%26#39;ll enjoy the markedly lower housing prices here--you%26#39;ll get a great deal for what you pay, compared to CT.

  • My wife and I are flying out to tulsa in sept(labor day...

....didn%26#39;t want to stay in fayetteville(we%26#39;re coming to wacth our trojans play the hogs) so we decided to stay in tulsa for the weekend. The reason I%26#39;m posting is because we are in the process of looking for another city to live in and start a fam.(the cost of cali is way to high) and we were worndering what tulsa has to offer? and since we%26#39;re going to be out there, where should we start looking as far as neighborhoods?

    thxs. just curious

My wife and I are flying out to tulsa in sept(labor day...

You don%26#39;t say what you have in mind, USC, as far as what offerings and neighborhood amenties you%26#39;re interested in. Tulsa is a very livable small city. Big enough to have good highways, small enough to keep them relatively unclogged. Big enough to have a variety of established, older neighborhoods as well as many suburbs. What you have in San Diego, they have in Tulsa; just on a much, much smaller scale.

My wife and I are flying out to tulsa in sept(labor day...

UCS619 - Hopefully you will find Tulsa to be a charming little City. It%26#39;s much different than so cal. in regards to almost all areas that I can think of. By far the biggest difference is the cost of living. It%26#39;s VERY low and traffic is almost non-existent compared to what you are used to. Homes are affordable for the most part but some parts of town have really started to escalate due to folks like you guys taking advantage of our low cost of living cashing out their equity in other states and moving here. As far as neighborhoods, it all depends on what you are interested in. For the high 200K%26#39;s and low 300K%26#39;s you can score a fairly top of the line brand new custom 3,000sf 4bd, 3 car garage home in either Jenks or BA schools (some of the better area schools), you can spend a bit more in Mid-Towne in the really, really, nice old oil baron areas around 21st and Utica near Cassia Hall high school (private). Many of these homes resemble stuff in so. cal (Anaheim) in their design (i.e. Mediterranean estates mixed with craftsman bungalows) Prices in these estate type areas can range between 300K and 2mil with most homes right now going in the 400k%26#39;s. In established South Tulsa areas you can find perfectly nice homes with nice yards in wonderful oak woodland areas in the high 100k%26#39;s to 300k’s for about 2,800 sf. We are in Jenks Schools, which are some of the best public schools in the state.

Btw, I highly recommend the Ambassador hotel should you need lodging. It’s just a bit north of downtown near Boston Avenue United Methodist ( 1920’s Era Art Deco Church). It’s a great small hotel with wonderful dinning.

Anyway, have a great time at the game and enjoy Tulsa.

Tulsa is a very livable smaller city, very low cost of living, hardly any traffic. There are some great neighborhoods, with costs varying alot depending on whether you have school age children (now or in your future). Great live music scene, good arts (opera, ballet, a couple of good museums), minor league sports (alot of fun without the high cost). And did I mention, low cost of living? (I know I did, but it bears repeating.) Moving from California you will likely experience reverse sticker shock on housing prices.

    thanks(everyone) for the info.

My husband and I(3 kids under 11) are relocating from a large northern Metro area. Are we in for a cultural shock? What do you do for fun? Besides the lake near Edmond. I heard 6 flags is closing down, too.

    Is downtown safe at night?

Does it really get windy in summers and hot ?

Frontier City (Sixflags) is not closing down and is a great park. It is not a large park, but the lines are very short, so you can ride even the big rides several times. The water park is the same way and also owned by sixflags. Bricktown is the main downtown night spot is very safe and if you are into the night life you will love it. Let me end by saying that folks that move to Oklahoma City with a family and an open mind will never want to leave. It is a cultural shock in the sence that folks here are much friendlier than most places and very helpful. The price of living is lower. It does get very windy. Sorry that my answer sounds like I am rambling, I am trying to give lots of info in a hurry.

You might have something of a culture shock, but sometimes a shock can be a good thing!

    When we moved here from the east 19 years ago, we found that Oklahomans tend to be friendly and generous, that their lives tend to be centered around children and church, and that they are fiercely proud of their state and their heritage. Our children, 10 and 13 at the time, fit in easily and quickly came to think of Oklahoma as ';home.';

Like other big cities, Oklahoma City has theme parks and art museums, symphonies and shopping, festivals and parks. While some isolated areas may have high crime rates, you will find that public places are safe and well patrolled. Oklahomans like their football, so be ready to decide if you%26#39;re an OU fan or an OSU fan.

Spring is the windiest season, though winter cold fronts can kick up quite a breeze, too. Summers are mostly calm. You can expect that July and August daytime temperatures will hover in the mid 90s, but mornings are wonderful all summer long. In exchange for enduring the hot summers, you will find that winters are brief and mild.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

What northern metro are you talking about? There will be less of a culture shock if you%26#39;re from places like Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Columbus, Cincinnati. There will be more if you%26#39;re from Minneapolis, Chicago, or any place along the north Atlantic seaboard.

What do we do for fun? We do different things. There are clubs, lounges and bars for the club-hopping set in Bricktown. My college friends and I (yes, we%26#39;re just past thirty) just like having a good meal and conversation at a restaurant; there are dining options abound, from continental prix fixe to Cajun, to Mexican to lakeside to steakhouses to pho shops.

We like working out at athletic clubs and using the many city trails. The trail at Lake Hefner seems to be the most popular (it also features a boat club and 3-4 restaurants). The Oklahoma River trail is just getting started, but you can learn to row at that river at the new Chesapeake Boathouse (check it out at www.chesapeakeboathouse.com).

We like watching movies. Like other places, there are several cineplexes. OKC%26#39;s become a film center with popular weekly showings of documentary/arthouse/foreign/classic films at the fairly new Museum of Art. We host one of the few official Oscar watch parties in the country. Our deadCENTER Film Festival is considered a top up-and-coming festival by filmmakers.

We love our concerts. The Ford Center brings in the best, from Elton John to the Rolling Stones to Coldplay to Britney Spears (well...most of the time). The Civic Center is host to the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, ballet, choral music, and more intimate concerts the likes of Sheryl Crow and Micheal Buble. There are several other concert venues.

Of course, what%26#39;s caught on fire the past few months has been NBA basketball at downtown%26#39;s Ford Center. The Hornets have quickly become our adopted favorite sons.

Finally, we watch our OU/OSU teams with passion, and the large number of sports bars speaks to that.

That%26#39;s about as general as you can get. Beneath that, there are activities for every niche. You have your country/rodeo set in Stockyards City, the fairgrounds, Bricktown (Wormy Dog and Toby Keith%26#39;s), and the Oklahoma Opry. We have a vibrant rock scene with more original music coming out of our clubs than ever before. We have a close-knit arts scene that%26#39;s decidedly modern (as opposed to the old masters) -- lots of art classes! We have some great theatre companies, and 4-6 Broadway touring productions come yearly. There are several clubs, from chess clubs to biking clubs to ethnic organizations that know how to put on a party! When you come into town, ask around about your interests, and someone will lead you to the right group!

In terms of family activities, there are the aforementioned theme parks and trail parks. No matter where you live, there are tennis courts, a golf course, or pool nearby. There are roller skating and ice skating rinks. There is an extreme skate park on the river designed by one of the sports%26#39; heroes -- local star Matt Hoffman. Central Oklahoma is known for girls gymnastics.

I%26#39;ll stop there. But I think the better question is, what do YOU ALL like to do? Chances are, we%26#39;ll have it.

By the way, downtown is very safe at night. Stick to the arts/business/hotel district and Bricktown, and you%26#39;ll be okay.

I%26#39;m a city guy but I understand you might want to live in the suburbs. Here are two notable ones:

If you%26#39;re so inclined, we also have affordable-for-the-whole-family minor-league sports. The Blazers have a large, loyal fanbase. The puck action at the Ford Center is actually pretty exciting.

Our Triple-A baseball team, the Redhawks, have a growing fanbase. They play in one of the best minor-league ballparks in the country, the AT%26amp;T Bricktown Ballpark. It%26#39;s baseball as it was meant to be.

OKC Transplant from NYC. 32 years now.

Oklahoma City is a great place to raise a family. Downtown in the Bricktown area is safe at night and the %26#39;safe zone%26#39; is rapidly expanding. And there are plenty of things to do for a normal family. (BTW: Six Flags is selling both properties in OKC last I read.)

Temps can get above 100 in the summer but the humidity is very low. The winds are high compared to many places.

Public transportation is basically non-existent, so don%26#39;t expect much.

Best thing about OKC? Housing is very reasonably priced.

Wow, you guys posted some fabulous ';stuff'; so far! In Edmond there are lots of family friendly activities from Shakespeare in the PArk, Pelican Bay water park, a great Jazz club affiliated with the University, fun shopping in old downtown, various restaurants, some new others old standards. I am a Realtor and have been fortunate to help several NBA Hornet affiliates get settled here. They seem to take advantage of horseback trailriding in Norman, fried chicken dinner in Okarche, and trips to the Cowboy Hall of fame. You%26#39;ll find our area lacking in horrible rush hour traffic. Yes, we do have four real seasons. Lots of family oriented activities that are offered around the rest of the country- all the sports for your kiddos, malls, and then those great Hornets games!
