coming to okc and lawton 05/23-05/31

Greetings all,

I will be visiting on the dates posted, I am interested in good mexican restaurants in okc and lawton.. I am also interested in a nice hotel in okc that has early shuttles to the airport for my departure. I know this is an okc forum but i am also interested in info on lawton, the lawton forum does not seem to be used that often. I would also like info on where to buy OU memorabalia. I appreciate any and all info and I look forward to my visit. Sincerely, Chris (Wrightsville Beach/Charlotte, NC)

OK, two great places for OU Memorabilia:

The Big Red Shop, located at NW 50th Street and MacArthur Blvd

A Store Divided, in Penn Square Mall at NW Expressway and Pennsylvania Ave. - where they also have the much preferred OSU memoribila as well. :)

A Store Divided also has a lot of signed stuff for sale, mainly from OU players.

You may want to stay at one of the hotels in the I-40/S. Meridian area. Several good ones there depending on your price range. I believe the higher end ones have shuttles, but you can always catch a cab for not too much money from that area since it%26#39;s only 5 miles or so from the A/P. If you want to stay in some nicer hotels near Bricktown, the Renaissance Downtown and the Marriott Courtyard (also downtown) are two great hotels. A little higher than most hotels in OKC, but they are located very close to Bricktown, which is the biggest entertainment area at this time.

Good Mexican restaurants? You will probably get as many recomendations as you do replies... My personal choices when eating Mexican are:

Chelino%26#39;s Bricktown (the closest to hotel area I recommended but they have others around town)

Ted%26#39;s Cafe Escondido - May Ave and NW 68th street

Bandolero%26#39;s - 5714 S Shields

Not in any particular order.

Have fun!

thank you for the info.. but does anyone have any info on lawton??

Some nice hotels in OKC that offer free shuttles to the airport, all on Meridian (the street coming out of the terminal), are:

Embassy Suites

La Quinta Inn

Wingate Inn

I would stay downtown, but none of its hotels offers a free shuttle (as far as I know). The cab ride would be about $20.

mod is right, ask 10 people what the best Mexican restaurant is, and you%26#39;ll get 10 answers. Ted%26#39;s is a favorite, Abuelos (also in Bricktown) is good, and Adobe Grill is supposed to be very good for authentic Mexican, not Tex-Mex.

For convenience, here%26#39;s a web guide, dated I%26#39;m not sure to when:

In terms of places to get OU merchandise, I would go ahead and go to the campus in Norman. Some places on its Campus Corner (www.oucampuscorner.com) have a pretty extensive array of goods. I also like the selection at the University Bookstore underneath OU Memorial Stadium on Asp.

Oh and about Lawton: I haven%26#39;t done much there, except for what is just outside of it: the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge -- driving around these mountains, you%26#39;ll see buffaloes up close and personal -- some stand right next to the roads. You can learn about the wildlife at the museum center, and hike up Mount Scott for awesome views and a sense of accomplishment.

Lawton is a military town, so the Fort Sill Museum might be worth a visit. The Museum of the Great Plains looks to be a nice intro to Native America, and you might be able to do some jamming at the Percussive Arts Society Museum.

Norman is a little out of the way when travelling between OKC and Lawton, but not all that far - maybe 25-30 miles additional driving. And urbanokcadvisor is right about the stadium, Campus Corner and the surrounding area for OU stuff. You might consider it...

Abeulo%26#39;s in Bricktown has good mexican food. Also the Apothocary has good OU gear.

panache...may be difficult to find anyone on here that has eaten in Lawton so best bet is to just ask once you get down there....not likely to be too many mexican restaurants to choose from anyway

And the previous posters nailed pretty much the best in OKC...get ready for some heat as it%26#39;s supposed to be in the nineties next week

26 year old lawton native and I would have to recommend Los Tres Amigos for good mexican food and fast There is one on east gore and on 53rd(west side)

If you visit lawton and have a car then the wildlife refuge is a must must must.( check out robbers cave, dog run hollow, mt scott or the holy city)

Also a great local attraction is the percussive arts society national headquarters( great to visit especially if you have kids as there are LOTS of instraments to play) And this is FREE.

Geronimo%26#39;s grave is also located on Ft Sill which is adjacent to lawton.

Hope that gives you a good start. !

However, Lawton does have 3 other good sit down mexican restuarants:

The popular chain El Chico

and two more good locals

Salas%26#39; and

El Ranchito

Forgot to mention an absolutely fantastic Tea Room( for a very good gourmet treat from lunch)

called '; the tea room'; and open only from 11 to 2 monday to friday

they have fresh delish pastries made to order.

thank you all for the insight, i sincerely appreciate it.. flying out tuesday!!
