Soon To Be Sooner

Hi Yall,

My family is moving to NE OK around the 1st of Nov. Husband is moving with his job to Afton. We have 2 daughters ages 8 and 10. Would like info on the town and also rentals for homes as we will need to rent for one year before we buy as to make sure the new job will work out. Any Info would be wonderful !

Thanks J. from Mo.

If your smart you%26#39;ll consider moving to another location other than Afton, I grew up there and still have friends, but there is nothing there. Oklahoma taxes are too high. I%26#39;m sorry to be so negative but that%26#39;s life. And to the residents of Afton, if you read this and you feel resentful about my comments, hey you made the town what it is today. Nothing.

I don%26#39;t know much about Afton, but my mom lives in Grove, which is quite a boom town. Lots of goods and services there, as well as nice people (mostly retired, it seems), and more coming every day.

Northeast Oklahoma is nice because of proximity to Tulsa, one of my favorite small cities because of its fine museums and neighborhoods. Also, you%26#39;ll be near great natural areas. Fishing, hiking, floating, boating: everything is in the area. The Illinois River is still the best free flowing river in the area, Grand Lake is large and pleasant, you%26#39;ll be near lots of great hiking in northwest Arkansas, etc.

Oklahoma is actually a moderate tax state, higher than some, lower than most. While our sales taxes tend to be on the high side, our property taxes tend to be dirt cheap. You%26#39;ll find that your home-buying dollar goes a long way here.

I live in SE OK and would invite ya%26#39;ll to explore the Kiamichi country! Many great lakes for camping, fishing, swimming...Tenkiller, Eufala, etc. ;)
