Lincoln, NE to San Antonio, TX - Family trip in June by van

We are traveling from Lincoln, NE to San Antonio, TX in June 2008. Any ideas on places to stop or stay along the way. We plan to go to Sea World but beyond that we are open to any family activity. Kids are 7, 11, and 13.

What kind of activities/attractions interest you most?

There is a lot to do in and around OKC. Art/Science/Natural History/Cowboy Museums, our wonderful zoo, Bricktown, and much more. Also, slightly off your route down I-35 you will find Native American attractions, prairie land and other natural areas, and of course old Fort Sill (where Geronimo was held captive and is buried).

And just north of the Texas border there is the Arbuckle Wilderness (a drive through animal park) and Turner Falls Park.

Do you have a route planned, Kids? You could follow I-35 through Kansas. Or you could use US71 from Kansas City, then I-44 to I-35, which would add northeastern Oklahoma to your route (Tulsa). Or you could use US71 to I-44 to US69, which would miss both Tulsa and OKC in favor of eastern Oklahoma. All are major four lane routes; which did you have in mind? That might affect what we recommend.

Just north of OKC at the route 66 exit off I-35 is the new www.pops66.com restaurant. Fun for kids and just a short detour off the interstate.
