Road trip from Memphis to Hutchinson Kansas

We want to drive from Memphis to Hutchinson in Kansas with only 1 overnight stop. Can anyone suggest a nice town to stop that is kind of half way. We don%26#39;t mind driving more than half way if it means reaching a nicer town to stop in.

I%26#39;m assuming the best half way stop for us would be after we get over the Arkansas border into Oklahoma (assuming we take the interestate 40 through Arkansas).

Any suggestions at all for driving routes would be appreciated. We are coming from Australia so have no idea other than what i can find on the internet which isn%26#39;t as good as personal recommendations!

I think you will want to take Interstate 40 into Oklahoma, the Muskogee Turnpike to Tulsa, US 412 to Interstate 35, which will get you as far as Wichita. The whole trip is a little over 600 miles.

Van Buren, Arkansas, just east of the Oklahoma border, is a picturesque little town; it%26#39;s just under half way. Muskogee has few things to recommend it, other than a small museum dedicated to the American Indian tribes of the region. Personally, I would go on to Tulsa, where you will find better accommodations, better restaurants, and a couple of very fine museums.

Thanks i was thinking Tulsa. But can anyone recommend where we could stay that is close to restaurants/nightlife etc also?

The Ambassador Hotel is undoubtedly Tulsa%26#39;s nicest hotel. It has a very nice restaurant in house, and it%26#39;s close to Cherry Street, which has lots of other unique places for dinner and later. http://www.hotelambassador-tulsa.com/

Urban Tulsa Weekly has lots of good information about what%26#39;s going on. www.urbantulsa.com

I strongly recommend that you take a little time to visit Tulsa%26#39;s Gilcrease Museum, which has a great collection of art from the American West. www.gilcrease.org
