Travelling to the outskirts of OKlahoma City

Hi...I%26#39;m an undergrad who is gonna be in Oklahoma city for 3 weeks and intend to live a lifetime each day and night I%26#39;m there!

Found alota intersting stuff to do and see...and one of them%26#39;s Woolaroc. However how do I get there from Oklahoma City (which is where I%26#39;ll be) other than driving there...cuz I can%26#39;t drive! ...if taxi/cab is one of the solutions can an estimate of the fare be given?...thanks a ton in advance!

Travelling to the outskirts of OKlahoma City

Woolaroc is about 140 miles or so from OKC. A cab is out of the question. Greyhound runs buses from OKC to Bartlesville (the closest Greyhound stop to Woolaroc) and the fare is $19. But the trip lasts about 3 hours (It%26#39;s about 2.5 hours by car according to Mapquest.) And once in Bartlesville you will still have to get out to Woolaroc, a 14 mile trip.

Even within OKC you will have a difficult time getting around without a car. Our city covers a lot of land, especially when you include the entire metro area. And our public transit system is somewhat lacking (one of our biggest negatives, IMO).

Give us an idea of what you are wanting to see/do and the closest major intersection to where you will be staying and we should be able to give more specific help.

If you can rent a small car ...gas is about 3.06 a gal right now.

You will need it. Here in OKC go to ...Cowboy Hall of Fame, Remington Park, Bricktown, State Capitol, Western Ave. b/tw 36th and I-44. Sam Noble Museum in Norman (Dinosaurs)

There are many great museums in Tulsa. 1 1/2 hrs. up the turnpike. Go to Gilcrease and Philbrook and the Utica Square area. Woolaroc is beautiful and very much worth the trip. But you will need a car. I agree with other poster. Our public transit is TERRIBLE!! You could take bus to Tulsa and then buses or cabs when you get there. But renting a car is not too expensive. Have fun.

He says he can%26#39;t drive - I took that to mean he does%26#39;t have a license and may not even know how to drive.

Yes. I saw that when I re read it. Sorry. Maybe make a good friend that can drive.??? :) Oklahoma is really behind on the public transit! We really need to work on that!

Thanks for the suggestions!...the bus ride to Bartlesville and gettin to Woolaroc from there sounds good..only need to figure out how to complete the last 14 miles..hehe

and yeah..it%26#39;s a bummer I can%26#39;t drive and as rightly assumed it%26#39;s cuz I donno how to! I hope greyhound works on Sundays too..cuz that%26#39;s e only day that%26#39;s all to maself..accomodation will be around West Reno avenue, if that helps to make directing me any easier!

Thanks soooo much though :)

If you do travel from OKC to Bartlesville from OKC you would probably have to stay overnight in Bartlesville to visit Woolaroc.

The bus leaves OKC for Bartlescille twice a day: at 10:45 AM arriving at 1:40 PM and at 5:30 PM arriving at 8:15 PM.

The return bus also leaves Bartlesville for OKC twice a day: at 10:45 AM arriving at 2:05 PM and at 11:30 PM arriving in OKC at 2:30 AM.

This route is handled by the Jefferson Bus Line...

Woolaroc is open from 10 AM to 5 PM.

So: Leave OKC on the Saturday 5:30 bus, spend the night in Bartlesville, go to Woolaroc on Sunday as early as you can and then return to OKC on the 11:30 PM bus. And while you might be able to use the OKC trolley (Orange Line: http://gometro.org/metro_transit%20folder/metro_transit/images/orangelinemap2.pdf) to get from your hotel to the bus terminal, it would also mean taking a cab from the bus station to your hotel on the return trip.

Good luck!

:)

Sorry for the misspelled words. I%26#39;m still half asleep. :)

Here is that link in a little better format:

You can go to www.greyhound.com and enter the dates and the cities for their schedules.

I disagree that our public transit is ';terrible';. We do not have trains, but busses will get you almost everywhere.

Sort of.

About a year ago I was trying to help someone get from OKC to Stillwater. You would think there would be ready transportation from the State Capitol to one of the two largest of the State%26#39;s Public Universities. But there are NO buses that go there. The best that we could do was one of those shuttles (Blue Vans).

From OKC on Greyhound you can get to Ardmore, Barlesville/Dewey, Chickasha, Durant, El Reno, Elk City, Henryetta, Lawton, McAlester, Muskogee, Norman, Okemah, Pauls Valley, Sllisaw, Shawnee and Tulsa.

No transportion other than by car from OKC to Enid, Ponca City, Blackwell, Stillwater and any other

city/town in Oklahoma.

In point of fact, the public transportation in Oklahoma is minimal. Public Tranist in OKC is a joke anywhere outside the trolley system. And if you want to go anywhere other than Fort Worth by train, you better be prepared to either go to Fort Worth and leave from there, or drive to another state.

Sorry, but compared to DART, BART, NYC-MTA, MARTA, MBTA, and the DC-MTA and public tranist in just about any large city in the rest of the world, Oklahoma public transit is a joke.

those are all much bigger cities.

going to outlying towns is different.

in the metro, there%26#39;s a good system of busses. No, it%26#39;s not light rail, but that will happen in the next 20 years.
