Touring

Are there tour companies that do bus tours of Oklahoma and Kansas,as i would rather do them than drive myself.

Probably see more that way as well.

Touring

I can honestly say I have never heard of any - and I would not think there was enough potential for a tour company to have a regularly scheduled tour.

However, I have been surprised before.

Good luck finding what you are looking for.

Thanks very much for your advice.

You have to remember that when you are discussing Oklahoma and Kansas as a single area you are talking about an area about 25% larger than the entire UK and Republic of Ireland combined - most of it empty farm/pasture/prairie land.

:)

The attractions outside of a particular city are spaced far apart and the numbers of people that would be willing ot pay for a bus tour to see them is probably very limited. Bus travel has diminished over the years as has rail travel - which is almost non-existent in this part of the country (For major city destinations, OKC only connects to Ft. Worth Texas and then you have to go everywhere else from there.)

The USA (especially the central plains) is still very much a car culture and people love to drive themselves around.

Let us know what you are interested in and I%26#39;m sure between this forum and the Kansas forum we can make plenty of suggestions to help you get the most from your visit.

Thanks again for your advice.

Did some touring two years ago,my wife and i and two friends

Chicago,Rapid City and San Antonio mainly flying but some driving.

We may city hop after your comments.

Have just watched Fox live on Sky tv here in the UK,started to watch

it for updates on hurricane Dean in the caribbean but it was

showing helicopter rescues in Oklahoma after heavy rain.

Hope you are ok and have not suffered any problems.

Kind regards

It definitely got pretty strange last night.

Oklahoma basically got hit with a hurricane - which is unheard of. Tropical Storm Erin moved into the state quite a long time after making landfall and working its way through Texas, and for some reason it strengthened and did a good impression of reforming right in the heart of Oklahoma.

I haven%26#39;t heard if it was officially classed as a hurricane, but from the reports on the local weather it reached category 1 levels for at least a few hours. (75+ sustained winds.) Some areas got 8+ inches of rain in just a few hours and that caused rivers and creeks to overflow their banks flooding a lot of fields, some roads and a few towns.

I live in OKC, and we weren%26#39;t much affected in our area, although some roads in the city limits were closed due to water running over them. Pretty amazing, actually.

I saw the video of one rescue involving a helicopter (probably the one you saw?) It was pretty amazing and is apparently making the rounds of the news all over the USA.

Thanks for your concern. So far all I%26#39;ve heard about is property damage. Hopefully that will be the worst of it.
