Best place to live for 30 something single male.

Hello Folks,

I%26#39;m going to be relocating to OKC in August to work for the USAF. I%26#39;ll be here for at least 2 years, or more if i like it. Can anyone give me advice as to where to live for a single male. I%26#39;m athletic so I like a well populated gym nearby, and lots of social opportunities. I%26#39;m thinking about Norman or Edmond. Can anyone give some input?

Dean.

If I were single I would live in Norman....lots more singles live there than Edmond I would think cause families flock there for the schools....have the university of Oklahoma right there so there will be plenty of social opportunities as well and good gyms

Most of the nightlife hotspots are in bricktown about a 20 minute ride north from Norman

I agree with Easy about Norman being more single-friendly than Edmond. Since OU is in Norman, you%26#39;ll find more singles, more night life, more activities such as live musicand sporting events, etc.

Will you be working at TInker? If so, I would think that you would have an easier commute from the south than from the north. I know a couple of guys stationed at Tinker who live in Moore, which is also on the south side; Moore would be closer to Tinker and to Bricktown than would Norman, so it would save a little gas. And I would guess that rent in Moore is less than rent in Norman, though I really do not know.

The other option you might consider is the near northside of Oklahoma City itself. The neighborhoods in the 50th and Western vicinity are also popular with younger, single folks.

How old are you? If you are in your early 20%26#39;s, then (as Easy180 has pointed out) Norman might better suit you. But if you are approaching or in your 30%26#39;s, then closer in (Moore %26amp; NW OKC) might be a better choice for you (as indicated by Radio.) The nighttime singles hotspot in OKC is Bricktown.

Gyms are another matter. There are several around town with different locations. Here is a website that lists the different fitness centers available:

Since you are working for the USAF, I assume you are going to be at Tinker. If I was working there I would take a long look at Moore, Midwest City and Del City (in that order) and spread out from there. However, if you consider Midwest City and/or Del City for an apartment, rather than a house, I would check the area well before making any commitments.

Good luck!

I just noticed your age is in the title. :) Stupid mistake on my part.

Like I said - for a single male in his 30%26#39;s OKC would be probably work better than Norman, but of course that would depend entirely on your taste.

This is getting redundant!

Here is another thread on this forum with a lot of info on NW OKC in case you are interested:

Another 30-something male moving here, from California in his case.

:)

Thanks everyone for their input. Very helpful.

I%26#39;m going to look at Norman very closely. One issue though is the commute. I will be working at Tinker, as you all guessed. I%26#39;ve heard the commute would be about 25 minutes from there. Is this true?

What if I wanted to live closer to the base, say 10-15 minutes? What would people recommend in that case?

Also, if I decided to live closer to base, would I be ';missing out'; on all the social opportunities in Norman? I mean, I do have a car and don%26#39;t mind driving to Norman.

What would be the commute from the Bricktown area?

Last question.

I%26#39;m very much into the internet and cable television. What%26#39;s the best place for good ISP%26#39;s and cable service, or does it matter?

Dean.

30-35 minutes from Norman to Tinker sounds about right. Maybe a little longer some days and shorter others. A lot will depend on when you make the drive. Full on rush hour with construction could take you closer to 45 minutes.

If you want to live within 15-20 minutes you%26#39;ll have to choose Del Cit/Midwest City/Moore areas.

From the Bricktown area to Tinker? About 15 minutes or so.

Of course, depending on the alert conditions at Tinker, those times could be significantly increased waiting to get on to base.

If you lived closer to base whether you miss out on the Norman social scene or not will depend on how much you want to drive and how much you want to drink. I wouldn%26#39;t recommend going to party in Norman and then making the drive back to Moore.

Cable in the entire OKC area, including Norman, is Cox Cable with cable highspeed internet available just about everywhere that I know of.

DSL is available from AT%26amp;T (formerly SBC) and others (who use AT%26amp;T phone lines.)

Dean-

My husband and I are your age and live in OKC....wouldn%26#39;t think you%26#39;d want to live in the Tinker area....it%26#39;s not a great place for nightlife. I would think about the Western Ave area...lots of nightlife for people our age, in a more upscale or mature setting than bricktown.
