moving to Wilburton

Can anyone tell me about Wilburton...the good and the bad

Also about employment and the schools/sports, etc.

moving to Wilburton

I know that they have a good Junior College there. Eastern Oklahoma State Universtiy. It offers and excellent nursing program and if not mistaken in forestry and agriculture too. It is a small town and to my knowledge not a lot of problems. Good luck with your relolcation.

We%26#39;ve been to Wilburton many times, but never for an extended stay. It%26#39;s a cute little town, pretty remote from everything, in the heart of Oklahoma%26#39;s ';green country,'; which is a great if you like fishing, hiking, etc. Wilburton has a certain Appalachian feel about it (I once live in WV), including lots of rolling hills. In many ways, it seems like a very old fashioned town, the kind of place that was common 40 years ago. But you%26#39;re going to have to drive to McAlester or Poteau for most services, Tulsa and Fort Smith if you want anything resembling a city.

We (twoprofs) teach at a state university which sees quite a few graduates from Eastern, the two-year school AlCapone mentioned, and it has had a number of problems lately. The nursing school has had terrible board scores; the former president connected them to a mail-order diploma mill in Florida, which hurt their credibility; the students from their who transfer to our four-year college are frequently poorly prepared and struggle with the transfer. They are, however, making some changes to address all of those problems, but only time will tell how if turns out for them.

It does have a sort of %26#39;appalachian feel%26#39; to it because of it%26#39;s hilly nature, and is only a short drive away from Robbers Cave state park, but as to get to any city to speak of, yes it is a drive away.
