cross country road trip

should post this on cross country board but there is not one to do that. So will try a few state posts. we start in Oregon. Have pretty good idea if first leg which will wnd in S Colo near Alamosa or Taos NM

Next we want to be in Memhis. Any suggestions of interesting things along a fairly direct route. we have been north thr Ark Texarkana, Mena, Russelville and then Branson. and on another trip the E Okl, Dallas to Muskogee then Eureka and Branson. also south Guthrie to Lawton, did not stop in OK city.

I would come over to Dallas and head up 35E to US 70 in southern Oklahoma and take it from Ardmore east through Broken Bow and on over to Hot Springs, Ark and end up in Memphis

From Taos, go around the Enchanted Circle to Red River or Angel Fire, then into Raton and Clayton. Some volcano monuments in the area, as well as interesting geography. Nice old hotel in Clayton.

Angle down to Amarillo, maybe stopping at the west Texas canyon country. Then east into Oklahoma on I-40, following old 66 wherever possible. Head south off the interstate to Red Rock Canyon, and then toward Anadarko (Native American sites along the way) and Sulphur, home of Oklahoma%26#39;s only national park. Then 70 east through the Ouachita Mountains and into Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas.

Couple of good ideas. Any reason to get as far south as Dallas?

Looking at idea of Taos to Raton, Canyonlands, then Anadarko, Ardmore, Broken Bow,. Hot Springs, sweep east through S OK sounds good, will check each area, Anadarko and Ardmore both may not fit for moving eastward.

Canyonlands? Is there a best part?

A 500 mile sidetrip to Dalls seems a little excessive to me for this particular trip. While there is a lot in Dallas, it should probably wait for a more dedicated stopover, rather than a quick stop on a long trip.

Of course, if you have all the time in the world, Dallas is a decent place to visit - if you don%26#39;t mind a LOT of traffic either at a complete standstill or moving bumper-to-bumper at light speed.
