Lawton/Fort Sill

Hi, We are coming in early October to Fort Sill. Any tourist things to do? I hear there is an animal refuge? Is it far from base? Any shopping malls that are good?

How are the hotels on Cache Rd.? Any information will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Lawton/Fort Sill

Lawton is a small town with one shopping mall that isn%26#39;t the greatest. In my opinion the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is the best thing about the area. It shares a border with Fort Sill and is very easy to get to. There is a nice visitors center and many great hiking trails. October should be a good time of year for hiking and they even offer some guided tours in areas that are closed to the public. You can check out more about that at fws.gov/southwest/…tours.html

Medicene Park is a quant historical town in the Wichita Mountains that could be worth a visit as well. It has grown quite a bit over the years and they now have restaurants, specialty shops and even a winery (not the best wine, but a winery nonetheless).

For lodging: there are some B%26amp;B%26#39;s that have opened in Medicene Park. If you choose to stay in Lawton I would stick to one of the newer chain motels that have opened up: Hampton Inn, Springhill Suites, etc. Fort Sill also has lodging.

Enjoy your visit!
