Help... any interesting places around McAlester????

For Mother%26#39;s Day my mother, daughter, and I will be travelling to Eureka Springs, AR. Looks like McAlester, OK is about halfway. We will be arriving in the evening, but would like a nice place to stay the night... it can be a little out of the way if it%26#39;s worth it. We%26#39;re not looking for a fancy hotel... just something nice to remember as part of our trip. Any suggestions?

Go on to Muskogee.

I don%26#39;t know about interesting, but you can find a list of all the hotels in McAlester at our state travel website, www.travelok.com

I saw two that didn%26#39;t look too bad, a hotel AmericInn and a bed%26amp;breakfast Cornerstone Inn. If you go to Where to Stay and tell it McAlester in the drop down menu, you can then check the boxes of the types of hotels your looking for.

But to be honest, i%26#39;ve only been there twice, once passing through, and once to the event center just for the day.

If your plans allow, I hear Giacomo%26#39;s Italian Restaurant down there is awesome. My barber drives 2+ hours from OKC to go eat there on a regular basis.

hope that helps...

We just stayed in McAlester last week at the Holiday Inn Express, it was really nice. Very friendly staff and it is a newer motel with really nice rooms. The weather was not warm enough for us to us the outdoor pool area but I would think it would be by the time you go there. We also heard that the Italian restaurant is terrific and is close to the hotel; we weren%26#39;t able to go though so I am not able to tell you by personal experience.

If you have the time and it is not out of your way, the Talimena Scenic Drive is beautiful.

I would consider Robbers Cave State park just outside of Mcalester... they have a small 20 room lodge called the Belle Starr View Lodge and cabins for reasonable prices. Its nothing up-scale but it is set in the middle of the beautiful San Bois Mountains and there are fun things to do if you enjoy being outside. As mentioned earlier, I would also hit one of the Italian restaurants in Krebbs. Very popular place with great food and history.
