Oklahoma City in October

In October my husband and I are attending a wedding in OKC and will be there for a few days. Do we need to rent a car if we%26#39;re staying downtown, and is the area safe to walk? The wedding is at the Skirvin Hotel but we don%26#39;t know if we%26#39;re going to stay there yet. Does anyone have any recommendations for other hotels in the area? Do we need a car to get to the Cowboy Musuem, or is there a trolley or is it walking distance from downtown? How is the weather in October?

Price range for the hotel we%26#39;re looking at is $150-200.

Any other suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks!

The following hotels are good choices in your price range and within easy walking distance of the Skirvin:

Colcord - 15 N Robinson Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73102, http://www.colcordhotel.com/

The Renaissance - 10 North Broadway, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73102, marriott.com/hotels/鈥?/a>

Courtyard Oklahoma City Downtown - 2 West Reno Avenue, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73102, marriott.com/hotels/鈥?/a>

You WILL need a car if you want to go to the Western Heritage Museum (which is the new name of the Cowboy Hall of Fame.) In fact, if you want to venture outside of the Downtown/Meridain area at all you will need a car. However, Bricktown is close to all of the hotels mentioned (including the Skirvin) and there is trolley service in the downtown area.

There was a complaint listed in this forum recently about the frequency of the Trolley run and whether the schedule was trustworthy, but in my experience it%26#39;s a good alternative to walking when too cold, hot or wet and cheaper than a cab.

Enjoy your stay and our wonderful city!

Modcon is right on... I would add a note about safety. Most places downtown are safe to walk around. I have always felt safe walking around Bricktown and the path back to the hotels mentioned.

Enjoy your time here (October is a great time to come)!

I would personally skip the Cowboy Hall of Fame unless you are really into that subject. If you are in the mood for a huge sculpture of Ronald Regan, etc. and instead visit the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, which is walking distance from your hotel. They are having an excellent retrospective of Botero, and as always the Chihuly exhibit is fun. They have a very nice cafe there as well. And the Crystal Bridge Botanical Gardens are near your hotel also, and is a romantic beautiful thing to walk through - a rainforest in the middle of the city - with Bricktown in the other direction. If you like contemporary art, Untitled Gallery is also quite near your hotel. Enjoy OKC!

Great suggestions, OUNeb! We just went to the member%26#39;s opening party for the Botero exhibition @ the museum last week. Excellent! It is one of the best shows we%26#39;ve had there. Untitled is a good gallery too. :)

Mikala.... I don%26#39;t know the exact dates for your October trip. If you are here Oct 12 %26amp; 13, you might want to check out The Girlie Show. Female artists (paintings, jewelry, clothing, handbags, etc) display their work in a really cool atmosphere @ the historic Farmers Market ~ which is a short cab ride from the Skirvin. This show has gotten bigger every year %26amp; is a lotta fun!

October is usually a nice month in the city. Not too hot, not too cold. My kinda weather. :)
