Need hotel recommendations during rodeo weekend

I%26#39;ll be in Oklahoma City for the International Finals Rodeo and will be in town from January 18-21, 2007. I have never visitied the city before and need some hotel recommendations. I will be flying in from Virginia. I am a middle-aged lady who will be traveling alone, can qualify for AARP rates and I know some hotels may offer special IFR rates although AARP might be better. Want a clean, safe place but not too expensive; doesn%26#39;t have to be fancy. Will be renting a car so I can get around to the museums, but will be at the rodeo every night so would like to stay close to the fairgrounds. Since I don%26#39;t know the city, need a place near restaurants (would be great if I could walk to them since I don%26#39;t want to spend a lot of time driving around trying to find a breakfast and dinner place). A hotel that serves a hot breakfast would be great. I already plan to visit the National Cowboy Museum and the Oklahoma State Museum of History but other suggestions are welcome! I want to see things that we don%26#39;t have back East (I am from the Washington DC area). Looking forward to my visit to OK City!

There are a number of Hotels on Meridian Ave around I-40 that would fit your requirements. Plenty of Restaurants in the area as well and easy access to I-40.

Check out the T/A Page showing a map of hotels. There is a knot of them west of the road marked ';3'; and north and south of the one marked ';270';. The fairgrounds are a little over a mile east of that area and Bricktown is about 4 miles east. You have pretty easy access to all of OKC from any of the hotels listed there.

Zoom in on them in this map:

tripadvisor.com/LocalMaps-g51560-Oklahoma_Ci…

and check the ratings on T/A to decide which you would like to stay at. (When you zoom in the closest city streets will be Meridian and Reno)

Have fun!

One more thing: I have not stayed at any of the hotels, but I have heard some decent things about the Hilton Garden Inn (#8 on the map) and the Courtyard OKC Airport (#11). Nothing fancy, just good solid hotels.

The Holiday Inn Express (#5) might not be a bad choice either.

Good Luck!

Agree with modcon...Just stay on meridian and you have plenty of breakfast, lunch and dinner choices all within a mile or two...Definitely try out Charleston%26#39;s if you like steak and for lunch hit Pearl%26#39;s....Great cajun food and pretty reasonable

If your hotel doesn%26#39;t serve breakfast for some reason there is an IHOP on meridian as well

Hope your trip goes well in OKC!

Mmmmm. Pearl%26#39;s!

:)

As for things to do, we are kind of limited on visitor attractions, here are a couple of websites to help you find things:

http://www.travelok.com

(this is Oklahoma Tourism Dept.)

this one lets you choose city and attractions your interested it.

and

(this is Frontier Country Marketings website)

My personal choice for visitors is the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum (downtown). Outdoor site is free and open 24/7. (Chairs at night is a must see)

Inside Museum has hours and charges admission (well worth price).

Hope you enjoy your stay.

Your best bet would be the Best Western Saddleback Inn - it is the closest hotel to the fairgrounds, has a great restaurant on site and a fantastic bar that offers Karoeke on Fri/Sat evening. It is also within walking distance of Outback, McDonalds, Trappers (a Pearls property) and has recently undergone a fantastic renovation so you are basically getting a brand new room and hotel for a fantastic rate. 405-947-7000 for reservations - they also will provide complimentary shuttle if you need it due to weather.
